Since optimas are uber popular and cool looking, what would I want to put in my GTO for an upgrade?

Only non-stock additions are Low Beam & Fog HIDs and a 500w RMS DVC sub/amp, that does 1000w max.

Was workin on it in the garage, and I wanted to check something so I got the key and went to fire it up, and lo and behold it was dead.

Id say a red top would be fine for that application. Im buying two of them for the diesel when my tax return shows up.

a yellow top deep cycle would be the best bet for that car since they are notorious for having a small current draw. every time you cycle a normal battery, you lose half of its storage capacity.

Red top. Have them in both of my vehicles, never lets me down. They cost more, but are worth it if you ask me.

I just put an Optima in mine after the OEM battery died the first cold day this year. Actually I stole it out of the '90. (:

Gave inspiration to relocate the battery in the trunk of the '90. So we got one from Braille Auto (http://www.brailleauto.com/) that is a lot smaller and weighs 21 pounds.

Delco factory batteries are garbage from my experience my old truck was less then a year old and the ***** didnt want to start when it was cold out.

I have encountered or owned myself several 7-10 year old OEM Delco batteries that were working with good reserve capacity and cranking power.
The battery in my 00 S10 died at an early 3 years/50k miles, I cant imagine pulling 200+ amps for a sound system had anything to do with that tho. :D

Best one was my uncles 90 Chevy 4.3/5 Speed that lasted 11 years/60kmiles.
Most mile's on one that I can remember is my Mother's 92 Regal that was about 8 years old with 160k on it. :D

I think Delphi sold the battery division to the Chinese about 2 years ago tho so maybe quality has gone down.
In my experience Delco has been the longest lasting battery out of any of them for the same price or a little more, My second choice would be an Interstate Mega-Tron.
I hope I can get a stock size Delco top post with an eye to put in my Cobra this season. :shades
I will say GM automobiles always seem to have physically smaller size batteries in their auto's where as all 3 of my Ford's have huge batteries.

To each their own I have just read a ton of complaint's of early death's on those expensive as heck optima batteries and a friend who had a red top and he seemed to always have problems with the battery being low on charge or flat from day one.

For trucks I would get two yellow tops. Better for accessories(plows, salters, aux. lighting) and better if you have a trailer with brakes.

i used to be an optima man but they dont last any longer then cheapo batteries and are3 times the price 3 50 dollar batteries will easily last 15 years 1 optima at 150 might last 8

screw optima unless its a yellow top. Once the reds go dead, youll never get a full charge again. I got an AutoZone battery for my truck and its working 10x better than the red top i had. I had my redtop for a year and a half.

I have two exide orbital's in my truck .... I got them when they were on sale a couple years ago 150 for the pair.... seem to be as high as the optima's now.... so my vote is red top

dan, I would recommend a yellow top. My foxbody stang had a power draw somewhere and when it sat for a week or so, sometimes it cranked over dangerously slowly. Got a yellow top and haven't had problems with it dying yet. If it gets low on juice, I jump it and drive it for 5-10 minutes and it works great.

I had my red top in my Red Mustang for 3 years... It died once (after I left a dome light on), I jump started the car, let it charge up and never had a problem again... :thumbsup

I would go with a yellow top. I have had issues with red tops. I put a Die Hard in the GF's Regal a year ago. It was pricey but it has been working really well.
