I do not think the shots are not anything special but it was sure fun to watch.
The battery died on the camera (cold sucks for that) just before totality, then my lens fogged up on the outside and froze, after clearing that up of course my focus was off for the full eclipse part.

beat me to it... Man it was cold out there waiting...
I tried a bunch of different exposures... all at 200mm on the tripod... disappointing.
The better ones where faster F/Stop and I didn't do many of those.

Damn right it was cold, I grabbed my tripod to come inside and almost could not stand to touch it.
That first shot is at f/9 1/125, second f/9 1 second and the last one is at f/11 2 seconds, all at 300mm and cropped a bit.

My feelings exactly. My auto-focus kept backing out. Should have switched to manual but I was very ill-prepared.
Still getting used to the functions of the new camera...

I had the 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS lens on my XTi but I noticed when I came back in, I had it on full manual mode still and really screwed myself by not adjusting all the settings. I'm used to shooting in modes where if you change one setting, the others compensate. I remembered about the eclipse, grabbed the tripod and camera, and ran outside and just started shooting. Had I been more prepared, I may have gotten some better shots. Oh well.. by December of 2010 when the next one comes along, I should be ready, LOL!

I tried getting a few shots, but my cheap ass Best Buy tripod does not hold a couple pounds worth of camera/lens well :(
Not at that angle anyway.
Any decent tripods under $100 used?
I hate the turny knob kind, I want one with the ball grip thingers... lol god I can't think of proper terms right now :P

I have the $85 dollar one from BestBuy, seems to work really well. Those ball head tripods get expensive but are very easy to use.

Mine was a $25 Samsonite at Circut City. Folds up nice and compact and is pretty adjustable for a cheapie.

Kinda funny here. Went outside last night at like 9 pm to take a pic of the lunar eclipse. Well I tried about a 5 second exposure time holding the camera propped up on the grill to keep it steady. Well, it was like -10 out and I was freezing. to get to the point, I did not hold it very steady. I dont like the results, but I thing "the ladies might".
no B.S. Check the exif... he took it with his Oly 2100UZ
