Wal-Mart dumps HD DVDs to back Blu-ray

Toshiba is set to announce that they will kill the format.

Kind of sad, I would have liked one more year of the format war. Now Blue Ray has zero reason to drop their prices. Atleast HD DVD got them down a little over the last year.

Figures... I was betting on at least one more year of format war so I just bought a new upconvert standard DVD player instead of buying a Blue Ray. Oh well, the prices will come down eventually... they always do.

What cracks me up is that Wal-Mart has all their Blu-ray crap in a locked cabinet... Like anyone is gonna steal those discs. That would have had to mean that they stole a damn PS3 and/or re-stole their entire entertainment system.

Will I still be able to replace my Beta video machine? :rolf

I think the large sums of money Sony was throwing at movie studios to be Blu Ray exclusive was the killer.

Sony is running a deal now where if you sign up for their Sony card...and buy a PS3 you get $100 credit, PLUS no interest and no financing for 12 months.

That sold me into buying a PS3...mainly for the blu ray player. Now I have to buy games for all 3 systems :(

Damn, sign up for the card and use it to buy the PS3. Then make no-interest payments on it for a year. Hell, if I thought I'd get approved for the card I'd try it.

I've been tossing around the idea of buying a 360 though because I really like racing games on the consoles. Just don't want to dip into the Mustang fund for it.

My plan is to buy another HD TV this comming winter, and a PS3 as a blueray player...

My feeling is that prices will be down by then...

It's not just no-interest payments, its no interest AND no payments for 12 months. You get a free ps3 for a year :headbang I plan on paying mine off once I get my tax rebate check from the government when they go out in summer

That's the deal I clicked on when I signed up and it says no interest financing for 12 months...however sony is running so many god damn deals when you sign up for their card, I was another one where you don't have to pay for 12 months for purchases over $299 .

I'm pretty sure they overlap, but we'll see when I get my first statement. Either way its a hell of a deal.

OK so this is going to sound stupid. How do I do this Sony offer thing exactly. I signed up for a card, says I will get it in two weeks. Do I just wait for the card then go buy a PS3 anywhere? I can't find anywhere where it says just what a "Sony Authorized Retailer"? Looks like you can get like 10,000 points on your first purchase too...
