Last weekend my tranny started slipping in the GTP. Not a big deal my uncle owns a tranny shop. On Sunday Brent and I took my car up there to get a rebuild. This week I've been driving our 99' C5 Auto, everyday I've been thinking about it more and more. We planned on selling it and waiting til the C6 cause we never drive the Vette anymore.
My question. Finish paying off my GTP which will be done in December, Sell the mods and the car. Then buy the C5 and play with that? I've got a winter beater so thats not a problem. Then I'm thinking I'm 22 years old, do I just keep the GTP save up my money and buy a house and Start my life? or being that I'm 22 enjoy what I have and buy the vette and have fun cause you only live once?
I enjoy going fast and adding a cam and headers and maybe some forced induction would make me happy :) I love the sleeper effect of the GTP but being able to get the vette would be nice too :thumbsup

What are everyones thoughts?

You are young, enjoy the toys. There will be plenty of time in the near future to settle down. Unless you can sell the GTP, buy the C5 then in 2 years purchase the house and mod the hell out of both:haveabeer

well the vette, wouldn't cost me much if anything, so it would just be a trade as long as I could get enough for my car and my main mods. Custom intercooler, wheels and tires, Coated Headers, LSD. I'd hopefully even have a little left over :)
Thats what I think, then my dad says well I did the same thing and wished someone would have told me to save up and do this and that. Then all I think is I dont give a F***, like you said, I'm young and I should enjoy it cause it all ends sooner or later, but then it hopefully comes back when you get to play again.....

Your car is practically paid for and it wouldnt cost you much more to get the C5. This falls into the category of "too good to pass up", afterall, when is the next time you will be able to almost trade straight up for a Vette? Save your money after the C5 purchase then buy the house. Thats would I would do if I was in your shoes.:headbang

I see a trend here. What ever Jeff's dad says, Jeff does the exact opisite.

I say think it over a bit. Lord know I wish I would have thought over some of my larger purchases.

the only reason I got a Grand Prix is becuase it had a functional back seat for my kid.

If you aint got no kids, now is the time to play, becuase your priorities will change when you do have one.

IMHO, I say go for the house now. It'll be better in the long run for you to get out and have something of worth. You buy the vette, and even if you kept it stock, it'd deteriorate in value. The house/property won't. THEN, in a couple years get a home equity loan and buy the vette with some cash you've been saving on the side too. You'll get a better interest rate on the loan if you have to take one then a car loan, and you really won't be in any worse of a position than when you first bought the house. ALSO, the value for a used C5 will have dropped. Hell, how much are you thinking of paying for that red one? A used 2001 Z06 can be had for low 30's right now. So in 2-3 years, I can see mid-upper 20's for some. If you keep watching, a '99 FRC(fixed roof coupe for those that don't know it/Z06 style before the Z06 came out) can pop up with like 50k miles for about $20g's even. That's a cool deal.

That's just my opinion. Granted i'm 23 and did it the opposite way. I kept investing into the car. What sucks then is, if you can't afford BOTH house and car, the house keeps having to wait if you break something. :(

Well IMO the Vette is virtually unlimited to what kinda mods that can be done to it. Not to mention you wont have the FWD blues.

Theres ALOT more parts out there than the W bodies have got and ALOT more people who know a ton about them. You will result with a car thats close to or equal to the performance of your car now and your just starting.

I say go for the C5 as long as your trade-up price is low. Chris has some GREAT advice. I would definately go C5 especially since the C6 looks to be butt ugly. Before you buy it, make sure you get an insurance quote on that thing!! You may be very shocked.

Do the C5. As long as you don't kill yourself in the C5 after you mod it, you'll have plenty of time to settle down in the future.

definatly a house. its your best investment. once you buy a house, you can buy anything. I think buying a vette would be a bad move. Ok, you buy a vette and put yourself in debt, dont make sense to me. if your capable of buying a house now, go for it.

Chris, you sank a ton into your car because you cant ever decide on what you are going to do from day to day and you end up pissing alot of it away. I'm sorry but with the outragously high property taxes around here, it would be awhile before he had any money left for anything let alone a toy. Getting the toy nows leaves him with options down the road as opposed to getting stuck in a house for x amount of years now. :thumbsup

ok well thanks for the advice. First I'm now 22 if that really makes a difference :) second the vette would be no debt being as I could damn near trade the 2 cars and not owe a thing.

This is very hard to think about cause my life revolves around cars as you can see in the garage picture. So they are a HUGE part of my life, and Modding the hell out of them goes hand-in-hand as you can see by my little ole' V6 :devil. So the Vette would open huge doors in performance, but then again I have insurance and then mod money and then buying a house, I'm not moving out in 6 months... yet unless everything goes as planned and the money starts going in, then I might start looking sooner for a house. Hard to find a smaller house with a 3 or 4 car garage ;) right now I'm up in the air. I love the GTP, but speed in my blood......:thumbsup

Trannies are a *****, I am finally getting mine figured out and that leak is toast. But anyway... IMO I think you should keep your GTP... Its a sweet car. If you have a vette, you have to think about insurance and what not... I dunno I think the Vette is sweet, but I like your car more... thats just me... Vettes are too... hmm expected to be fast?

It's a hard decision cause you know you will get to drive theC6 when ever you want, and those will be damn fast. But The C5 is bad ass, and so is your GTP. I don't known what I would do but I got first dibs on the IC setup. Don't forget about your Cobra too. Damn C5, soon to have C6, Ram Jet powered Cobra, and a mid 12 second GTP. You have way to many toys:3gears:
