there are too many threads in different areas of this board so im starting the official. post here with trail conditions, pics or what ever else you have to add.:)

this weekend is the Phantom Lake Radar Run in mukwonago. i will be there as well as many others i ride with, with toys messing around. any one else want to head out there we can leave from there and ride the trails somewhere.im game for what ever. if ur a wuss trails are rough in the kettle morain in eagle(thats where i leave from normally), towards burlington, east troy, sullivan, whitewater, elkhorn there all good, iv been out alot lately.

on another note, i passed the 1500 mile mark this last weekend! should have no problem doing 2000+!!

me and my old man rode from the one end of the drumlin, saxes in wales, to where it splits off to go around that mill, found our way to the other half of the drumlin and headed towards madison, we ended up in some small little town, I think it's were the drumlin ends, trails were pretty rough, about 100 mile trip. but man do these sleds hook on the hardpact. I got to ride my old man's turbo dragon, man it was aswome. Thing would carry the ski's till you got off it.

went out riding this morning with my buddy who bought my Indy..we started in Hustisford, picked up the Wild Goose Trail and headed north to Waupun. That trail was smooth as glass, but got a little boring after 15 miles with not ONE turn or curve, just a straight shot.
The new (to me) sled ran great!!! So happy I bought that thing!

We're supposed to get a bunch of snow tonight, hoep we get hammered. I just put my sled back together, had the primary explode on me, I think the bolt backed itself out. Luckily I had the belt guard on, instead of coming through the hood it made a nice window in the bellypan.

go up to post #10, I paid $650 for that sled just a few days ago. Put another 60 miles on it this afternoon and had a blast! Check craigslist, there's always a bunch of snowmobiles there ranging from $500 on up.

we went over to my granpa's farm tonight and tore it up. the drifts over there make it look like a snocross track in some spots! no really much powder and everything seems pretty frozen, espesially the 5 foot+ tall snow drifts. i turned one of them into a kickass tabletop.

deggy- my buddy has a 2000 xc 700 45 anniversery with a smshed tunnel that hed probably let go for about 700. rest of the sled is mint and runs as good as it did when it was new (my old sled). new windsheild, fully rebuilt suspension with new rails, everything else is fine.

on a side note- i rode the drumlin trail to rome and they were great! except on the way back, i blew a belt whichh blew my clutch side vent out no were to be found. so now i have a gapping hole in the side of my belly pan!

yeah i was pissed too. oh well, i had fun yesterday at the phantom ice drags. the track was plowed down to nothing so the trails sleds really didnt hook all the way till half track, so i only managed 87 mph. later we went out in one of the bays and we were racing 6-8 sleds wide.

the drumlins pretty fun to ride. gotta go through a little bs out till dousman but not bad. its a straight shot after dousman to jeffereson. from there you can do a couple loops towards ixonia, watertown, johnsons creek. you can damn near get to madison on the drumlin. you can also connect down to eagle which goes to east troy, elkhorn ect. trails are usually in decent shape, especially this year. theres also plenty of bars to eat/drink at to.

just so everyone knows trhe crack broke in half last year. sent it out and had it dixed for a alot of money but w/e. ive been running 420 mains almost the whole year w/o a problem(very lean/unsafe). im surprised that it hasnt melted before this with all the super cold weather. last night i didnt even beat on it muchg and it just acted like it fouled a plug. so i yanked both and found the pto sode covered with aluminum. i geuss im done for the year which was pretty good though w/ 1800 miles this year. i just talked to g&g in muskego and they"re getting a demod'd 600rr(stub nose sno-cross chassis) so ill see about that.

the only reason they stopped making them is weight. tripples are smoother and have better emissoins than twins as weel as more top end h.p.

for sure a good year! how many miles did everyone put on this year? i put on 1700-1800 i think, and thats hust with our usual family christmas trip and the eagle river derby which was almost too cold to ride anyway. most of it was on the drumlin trail out of waukesha county for me. now i just gotta start looking for a polaris iqr/600rr for next winter.

i was thinking of waking this thread up myself.

my car gets put away next weeked and the sled gets pulled out. all weather forcasts i have seen have it being another good year?!??! will have to wait and see i guess. the only big plans i have for this year would be to try to log more miles on up north by my cabin. other than a new helmet i will keep my junk one more year. new sled next year for sure, totally undecided as to what that might be.

a couple late 90's skidoos. a 98mach 1, fresh motor, needs track, rest of the sled is very nice and some other stuff i dont have full details on right now.

ahh the old sled thread. my junks just sitting in the back of the garage, just need to toss the top end back together. i probably going to sell it and get either a 600rr (in the iqr stubnose snocross chassis but with a big tank and a standard 600 h.o. carb motor). or i was also looking at the brand new 800 dragon sp (regular iq chassis with better shocks lower windsheild ect but with 154 h.p.) decisions, decisions...

hmmm, your right, what do i know ??? I mean Once Polaris came out with the IQ chassis Ski doo Had to scramble to make somethign Lighter then polaris, and in turn they couldnt hold the bulk head togeather on the XP :durr Then Yamaha Decided to build most of their sleds out of Lead and on their lightweight sleds they put the most underpowered motors in them that were avaiable And then in turn would get owned on the trail by mid 90's polaris technology ( Sorry chris :rolf) And then Arctic Cat, well the only thing that ever came out of them that was decent was the A-arm suspension...

it took polaris 4 years to come out with the dragon, there only decent machine in years. the fushion is/was a dud, they are still trying to figure out fuel injection, and even their jackets and helmets suck. ski doo is at the top of the game with their motors and aggressive chassis. cat has without a doubt the best ride and handling since coming out with the twin spar (one could argue that cat has alway had the best ride handling sled with the zr being probably the most recognized chassis EVER from any manufacturer, even more so than the IQ), and yamaha has the 4 stroke market pretty much wrapped up right now.

and..................polaris will have a hell of a sled in 2010 :loser i have driven them all, the new xp, the twin spar, the apex, the phazer/nitro, the switchback, the IQ, and a polaris is the only brand that i would never buy. they may come out and surprise the sledding world with something, but I doubt it.

xp= lightwieght fail. friend broke his 2 in half last year, literally, oh and bent the rails and bent the running boards straight down, oh and also forgot when ordering a mod, they sent the WRONG pistons and blew up with in minutes.
polaris= iqr chassis still rocks all race sleds except for the chain cases exploding
yamaha= heavy but nothing can keep up in open class, just need a good rider to ride one. <-- they dont even allow them in amature racing due to an unfair advantage.
artic cat=just plain fugly and handle like junk, push very bad

were they early build xps??? again, i logged some of the hardest miles ever with an xp in the group and that thing never missed a beat. the owner was worried after hearing all the horror stories.

the IQ belongs on the race track, not the trail, i agree with you that right now it is the best race chassis. the new cat does show a lot of promise though.

yamahas are four stroke, nuff said, again i agree. with a good rider it doesn;t matter that they are heavy, they are decent sleds.

the cats are the ugliest sled out there for sure, but not sure about the push. aftermarket skis, and updating the sway bar on the 07 models eliminates any push. cat has always had shitty skis on their sleds, first thing to come off when picking up any new cat.

/\/\/\ One early build one late built.... XPs are weak sauce. Great if Grandma needs to get across the field to milk the cows in the morning, but if you have any sack at all and ride it, then you will have issues down the road.... Fusion is a fail???? Pretty sure that the Fusion name is a fail but the Fusion is a IQ chaissis... the IQR is owning ALL other rides on the track... In fact, if it wasnt for the *reinforced* XPs, Polaris would have NO Competition on the track, On that note, You havent herd much about artic cat in the race world since the 02/03 sno pro :durr

i couldn't care less how many podiums a factory race team wins :chair:

i worry how the sleds perform in the real world, and the fact is polaris is at the bottom of the bunch right now. they tried to bridge the gap between race sled and trail sled and they failed. the fushion/IQ is a fail on the TRAIL, where it matters most. and again, i can't swallow the "xp is weak" argument. i literally logged over 1000 miles of some of the hardest riding i have ever done in my life and i was impressed. never even blew a belt :wow another member on here was along for all of them, i will see if he chimes in.

do you actually race or watch them on tv? not trying to be a smartass, just wondering.

and the new sno-pro will hold its own this year. :thumbsup polaris spent big money getting the big names in the sport to drive for them, i was not surprised how many races they won last year. cat has some up and coming guys with an all new chassis.

/\/\ I havent raced anything in two years (crashed and chiped 3 vertebre) The XP was having issues up front in the bulkhead area, and thoes rails that were all swiss cheesed to save weight, well thoes were bending like speghetti. I workd at a dealership that sold Polaris as well as ski doo, and have rode both. Im not bashing Skidoo by any means, but here is the fact of the matter, You take to much weight out and you will loose the structual integrity and that is what happened here. racers/ riders that had issues with the rails were adding steel to keep that damn thing togeather. On that note, this winter we had more Ski doos come back that burnt a cyl then any other machine. EFI and Carbed, SOO to say Polaris doesnt have their EFI dialed may be true, but id much rather get a MPG or two less then be walking back to the rod to flag down a ride!!!

hes a semi pro factory skidoo rider. he broke a total of 3 bulkheads 2 in the same weekend. blew the factory mod up in 5 laps, others blew up in 5 min lol had to have custom crazy running board braces made so they wouldnt flex, along with 99% of the other racers. the rails bent and the fix was a huge chunk of aluminum that bolt to each side of the rails. the beating i put on sleds, i look at what the racers do/break. i am VERY hard on equipment that wasnt built for the track. my phazer takes a beating, maybe slow but the worst thing that broke was the "link" (3times) in the rear skid, which is now billet that yamaha updated in 08. they updated my sled free of charge out of warranty. they replaced the ENTIRE skid exc the rails. that sled has been over2lane highways and been on a mx track a few times and cant complain about what yamaha has given me in return if i have troubles.

pulled my sled out of storage last night. man, i forget how good 2-stoke smells, that alone makes me never want to buy a 4 stroke, LOL!! planning on washing it up good and greasing it tomorrow, then i just have to wait for the snow!

I just pulled mine into the garage so I can start working on it. I did no summerizing whatsoever, pulled it in the yard right off the trail and put the cover on. I primed it 4 pumps today, 2nd pull started right up. Unreal.

Won't be long now!

well I posted a thread over on HCS about a group ride in december. Last year there were 6 of us from the site that met up and had an absolute blast. it is a great way to kick off the season!! like i said in that thread, all types of riders are encouraged to attend. the owner of the lodge knows the area great and can give the backwoods boondocking guys a great time, the trails up there are great for the hardpack guys, and the beer seems to taste better in the UP for the casual guys that just want to mess around!! would be cool to get some BCMers up there!!!

i am going to bump this for one reason...........

puddles were frozen this morning and i had ice hanging from my running boards on the truck!!!!!! whooo hooo!! won't be long now.

cleaned the sled all up and everything looked good. had to tighten the rear handle (or whatever you call it). just gotta grease it and polish the tunnel and should be all set.

badass88gt
11-10-2008, 11:57 AM
Polish the tunnel???? Holy bling!!!!

I took my Formula Z out by my buddy, had the pipe cracks and holes all welded up. Now I just need a new pipe from teh main pipe to the can, mine's rusted, and I gotta change seat covers and that sled is ready to rock. Then on to the MXZ....

....

I dont spend nearly the time that some do on it, just clean it up a bit. it is truly amazing what a little aluminum polish can do. gotta go buy a powerball though, sick of doing it by hand. gotta make it look nice, will probably be selling it after this year.

Jsho13
11-10-2008, 12:59 PM
Yeah powerball ftw. Every year I spend probably a few hours at least polishing my tunnel just for it to look like shit after the first ride. Why I do it? I have no clue but it looks damn good when its done.

yeah, after the first ride it is junked, but much easier to clean if it is given a good cleaning in the beginning of the year. i found out on my firecat, that if you never do it, after 3 years, it is a pretty big job trying to bring back the shine. :chair:

^^^
that should work. i just use the regular mothers aluminum polish. you will be shocked how shiny you can get them to look!! some guys go to the extreme, but even a quick over will make the sled look 10x better. plus, like i said earlier, once you do it once a year, it will stay a lot cleaner.

badass88gt
11-10-2008, 02:19 PM
You do the running boards and everything? I have traction plates rivited to my running boards, I could pop them off so I dont chew the hell out of my powerball. They could use some paint anyway...

yeah, my running boards have holes in the with the barbs facing up, so my knuckles usually don't survive totally unscathed, lol. i don;t spend too much time on the running boards though, just mainly the sides.

Jsho13

I use flitz polish or mothers polish, both work great. The stuff you have should work fine, just take your time. The end outcome will be a mirror like finish

question for the guys using modular helmets.

what type of baklava/facemask do you use? i want to wear something to keep the back of my neck warm and my baklava that i got now won't work with the respirator/breath deflector. any open face baklavas or thin neckwarmers out there?

Jsho13
11-12-2008, 02:15 AM
I wear a turtle neck thing, i think its called a dickie - and just a thin balaclava. Does the trick every time. By far the best helmet I have had, and I still have my open face for when it gets warmer out.

70challenger
11-14-2008, 11:41 AM
i got sick of that stupid air mask and took it off. just dont like having stuff over my face. i bought a ru outside faskmask last year and i love it. ive also goin to a motocross type helmet too, which i like a bit better.

badass88gt
11-14-2008, 01:13 PM
I wear a couple different ways. I have teh Ski Doo modular helmet, I like it but I think I bought the wrong size, it feels too small. I wear one of those Turtle Fur balaclavas with it, but like I said its too tight so I only wear it when its real cold. Last year I wore my motox helmet most of the time with the same balaclava and Scott goggles with the little polarshield thingy. They worked good, I have the light sensitive lens, but I want to buy the desert LS lens because it tints darker.

70challenger
11-14-2008, 02:15 PM
my problem is no matter what combo of helmet balaclavas/helmets/goggles setup i use, they still fog up horribly no matter and it annoys the crap out of me. ive even bought super expensive non fog goggles and still have the problem. the onlything that ever worked good was the heated facemask on my moduler helmet, but that broke and its $150 for a new one. u guys have any goggles u would reccomend

badass88gt
11-14-2008, 02:22 PM
Ive never once had my Ski Doo modular helmet fog up on me, proper fitment and seal of the airbox is key.

For goggles I like the Scott 89Xi Turboflows. I have th ones with the light changing lens like these....

The only thing I dont like about them is they change to the blue tint which isnt dark during bright sunny days. Scott now has a LS lens with the name Desert for the kids out in the sand dunes, those are supposed to tint from clear to darker. I think I'ma gonna try them this winter.

I just rode the trails for the first time this year. Did a little 5 mile blast up the trail. All I have to do is cross the rode and ride about 100 yards down the side of the rode and theres the trail. I was by myself so I didn't want to get to far but it was awsome. I got a chance to test out the new track and it works awsome in the powder.

LOVE IT!! :banana

haven't had an ounce of trouble with it in nearly 3000 miles. did over 2000 miles last year and not only did the sled survive but so did I. handling is great (so much nicer than the zr or firecat chassis), ride is the best in the biz, and even though people think they are slow, it gets up and goes with my fat as$ on it. after studding it and getting new skis on it last year i know i will have a hard time getting rid of it. thing rails like you would not believe. only thing that i dislike is, it is a heavy machine. it doesn't carv in the powder or air up like my firecat did, but for the trail, I am convinced after last year that the twin spar chassis is without a doubt the best on snow right now.

hoping to have a sled by next weekend. another f8 or possibly a leftover f1000.

anyone know how insurance companies figure value. some say that it is an average of retail and trade in prices??? any truth to that??

also. will totaling a sled make my car insurance to go up? i pay nothing for car insurance and if this accident makes my rates go up, i may just not claim it.

hit up the drumlin again tonight. the trail isnt groomed from wales to sullivan, but the new sled was eatin up all the moguls. we then rode to concord and that trail was getting kind of thin as well as the trail from there to johnsons creek. there was enogh snow, but it was just to powdery and just washed off right away. some of it was groomed, but it didnt make much differance. purple72olds blew up the bottom end (crack probably broke in half) so we stuff around by sullivan sulloon for a bit and then headed back.

i have about 90 miles on the new sled and i will tell you that this is THE BADDEST CHASSIS EVER! the way it sucks up nasty moguls and bumps is just unamagineable. the harder you beat on it, the better it is. also the 600 ho carb motor is no slough and actully has decent top end for what it is. my only real complain is gas milage. it doesnt help that it only has a 9 gallon tank. hopefully a little clutch work will help with that considering it spins at 8500 rpm right now(i want to be at 8100-8200) but all in all it is one of the baddest trail sled i have ever ridden.

I went out last night, unloaded just north of Arbor Vitae, headed over to Sayner, then down through Woodruff, Minoqua and back up. Put on about 85 miles, trails were in "ok" shape, could use a grooming, but then again it was snowing pretty good all day and night. I'm sure the groomers have gone through by now, was still nice to get out and ride. I really like riding on fresh ungroomed trails anyway, the loose powder is fun.

the family and i are up here in hoghton and this area didnt get hit as bad. we went for a little rip tonight after the trails stated recovering and the were great the whole time. i heard we pretty much lost all of our snow back home so i geuss ill have to make the best of this time here. were headed up to copper harbor wich is the tip of the kewanaa and werew staying there overnight(my mom bithes about anything more than 100 miles in a day). so far, the 600rr is still awesome and walked past the disapointing dragon 800 swithback (my dads) four times in a row. he would even get the jump and every time the old carbed 600 would march him down with snowcross gearing and he would never pull back. the mapping is horrible on the 800's and poo needs to do something about this!

may have ended my season this weekend, Just got my sled back together after having a problem with the base gasket and took it out to little muskego. Just out cruzing around by idle isle and blasted something stuck in the ice or an ice heave doing about 30 mph. The sled dead stopped, i flew about 15 feet. It pushed the left front back about 4 inches and twisted the front part of the chassis pretty good. So if anybody knows of a rev with a blown motor or a bare chassis laying around let me know.

Sled is totalled, parting it out. Buying an xp. Who needs parts. Brand new motor with wiseco pistons. Brand new studded long track. The tunnel and front end of the frame are fucked
