wow... see thats what happened to me last year on a trail by my house... i hit a metal stake in the ground doing about 30-35mph. the sled came to a complete stop i flew over the bars like you did, about 10-15ft. luckly the stake only made a 2inch hole in my belly pan and only chipped the engine block... it could have craked it but it didnt!

anyway, good to hear your ok!

Sled is totalled, parting it out. Buying an xp.

Sorry to hear about the sled man but you will love the xp chassis. My next sled will be a xp chassis doo. So light and powerful, you can just toss them around.

Same here, haven't heard of any problems. My old mans is straight as the day he bought it. But it doesn't surprise me that people are breaking them. I would still buy one.

had fun on phantom today. the track was hard to get any hook on for trail sleds and they shortened the track from 1000' to 800'. my sled actually suprised me compared to others especially cause it wont transfer that much.

Was up in houghton over the weekend and it was snowing like mad all day yesterday, made for quite a long ride home. Wish I could've brought the sled, but snowboarding in waist deep powder at bohemia was probably just as fun.

I'll be up in houghton this weekend. My club is having our annual trip. Me and two other guys are riding from here in Marquette to houghton, riding all day friday and saturday then riding back from copper harbor to Marquette.

whats up guys? long time no post for me, LOL! have been crazy busy.

finally got my sled back on monday from the shop. have been riding it wounded since the accident. the tunnel was on backorder. it is good as new, even better, kind of looks like the new tunnel has some updates over the one that was on there.

how has everyone's snowmobile season been going? like i said, have been super busy. from work being hell, to frozen pipes at my house in Tomahawk, to a 18 month running around, I haven;t put nearly as many miles on as I would have liked. I have just over 500 on i think.

An FYI for everyone. Me and a couple buddies will be going up to White Pine, MI and making a run up to coppor harbor. I beleive it was 340 miles by sled last year. We are doing that on feb 21st. Anyone with a dependable machine capable of going 100 miles on a tank of fuel, and a strong back is welcome to join. Serious riding for sure. Leave the lodge around 7 am and will try to make the trip in around 10 hours. it is an awesome ride through some of the prettiest country, and on some of the best trails around IMO!

Other than that trip, only really one other big one on the docket. The last saturday in february, trails and weather permitting, me and 2 others will leave from my house in St. Cloud and sled up to my place in Tomahawk. Have been wanting to do that for a few years now and finally have some other people to partake with me.

Well I just got back from my club's trip. Me and my buddy Craig who just bought a left-over 07 F6, rode from here in Marquette to Twin Lakes. Every one else trailered. I had a skid bolt break friday morning so while the club went to copper harbor I had to haul my sled into Houghton, get it fixed at the dealer and had it back by 4:00 that day. Then saturday we rode to lake Gogebic and over towards Ontonagon. Trails were a little beat up but they were out grooming later on. Rode back today and the trails were awesome. L'Anse sucked but it always does but the trail from L'anse to Big Bay is awesome. I got a chance to ride that twin-spar. The sled rode very nice and handled really well. Not my type of sled but I was impressed.

loading the sleds up for the last trip this weekend. we ended up not going to MI last weekend do to a my buds grandpa passing away. will go up to tomahawk for the day on saturday and call it quits for the year. trails are open up here, but they are junk. i did not log one mile on a local trail this year. will end up with under 800 miles for the season =(. would like to do a big UP weekend, but with all the people up there, I will stay home.'

bring on spring!!

Nice pics, looks like fun. Ive decided I'm getting out of snowmobiling completely, I didnt even hit 300 miles this year. I'll have 2 sleds going up for sale, but probably not until fall, spring sucks for selling.

heading a bit farther north now, but still a little bit for me in fondy county. i just hope that the northwoods gets a good 4-6. that would help them out a lot. was a pretty slow january for a lot of places. that thaw hurt. on another note....

anyone hear any news on any kickass 2010 sleds. would really like to get a new one since i have over 3000 miles on mine now. sounds like cat's 2010 MY is going to be another BNG year, so what do the other manufacturers have coming out??

Yup, we're supposed to get the worst of it. Its snowing pretty good up here now, supposed to go all night long.

Jsho13
03-02-2009, 12:50 PM
Trails are still pretty good up north. Lots of ice underneath but they have plenty of snow. Next weekend will probably be the last of the year for me but it has been a good season riding. I remember years ago when riding in march was a bonus. The past couple years we have rode deep into march, I think the last ride we did last year was the 31st.

07ROUSHSTG3
03-02-2009, 01:03 PM
^^^
yeah i logged 140 miles on saturday around the tomahawk area. was a little thin up towards prentice, but we came back down around Irma and the snow was great. the corners were a bit icey, but that is the norm this time of year. a lot better than i expected. going up north to Michigan this weekend and then calling it a year. my buds talked me into going even though I would be fine putting the sled away now. should end up with just under 1300 for the year. a bit short of my goal, but pretty good considering i didn't log a single mile on my local trails. last year i did over 1000 miles in the fond du lac/sheboygan/calumet county area alone. this year though the trails were never available when i was.

07ROUSHSTG3
03-09-2009, 12:50 PM
well my season is officially over. have to say I am kind of sick of winter.

me and 2 buddies logged 390 miles this last weekend in the UP. we managed to get our white pine to copper harbor run in on friday and then a quick run to Lake of the Clouds on saturday. trails were great in the morning on friday, but on the way back they got pretty bad. traffic got a bit hectic too as we got farther south. almost 400 miles in less than 13 hours of sledding, and that is including 4 gas stops, 5 eating stops and 3 long picture taking/relaxing rests! ended the year with 1171 miles. other than the big wreck, sled ran flawless and i consider it a good year. amazing how fast the snow melted. even up there you could tell that they lost a lot just in those 2 days.

Jsho13
03-09-2009, 07:19 PM
Same here, we went up last weekend and pounded on a whole 25 miles of off trail riding. Trails were mushy and melting fast. Till' next year . . .

turbogarrett
03-09-2009, 08:54 PM
Put about 75 miles on saturday morning around winter,wi. Actually found some good riding off the beaten path, but the main trails were junk. Ended up shooting guns and drinking fermented beverages:D

70challenger452
03-11-2009, 10:53 AM
I've got about 3000 miles logged for the year but I'm not quite sick off it yet. This winter has been a blast, just to bad the snow isn't going to be around a little longer. Me and some guys from my club are going to make one last trip to big bay friday. Hopefully the snow will be alright. Little 500 has served me well and other than a broken skid bolt, not a single let down the entire year.

Jsho13
03-11-2009, 11:01 AM
I put on just north of 2000 miles this season. The firecat held together better than I expected, no problems at all this year. I was worried that with 6k miles on it shit would start breaking but didn't happen this season.

70challenger
03-28-2009, 04:28 PM

badass88gt
03-28-2009, 06:33 PM
I went out to the garage to work on my 670HO. Finally got it started today after being apart all winter, the thing really has a wicked sound to it. Cant wait to ride it next fall, now I notice the fuel pump is leaking so I'll need to deal with that, then I want to give it a few heat cycles and retorques, fog it and wait till fall.

I SAW SNOW FLAKES THIS WEEKEND. It was orgazmic, I was helping clean up the trails up here and we looked up and saw the pretty whites coming down on us. I'm coming home for the snow show, all I need is a set of ski's from the swap meet. If anybody has anything used aftermarket ski that is still in somewhat good condition, I'm looking to buy, my stock edge ski's have 8640 miles on em and need to be replaced badly. I'm hoping to replace my sled next summer, the old edge has served me well just going to have way too many miles come the end of winter.

i just got a boner!

A SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL POSSIBLE FRIDAY INTO FRIDAY NIGHT ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN...

LOW PRESSURE ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS WILL MOVE TO NEAR CHICAGO FRIDAY EVENING... THEN INTO NORTHERN LOWER MICHIGAN FRIDAY NIGHT. THIS SYSTEM COULD BRING A SIGNIFICANT HEAVY SNOWFALL TO NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN.

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BECOME WIDESPREAD ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN BY MID DAY FRIDAY... THEN CONTINUE INTO FRIDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW MAY BE MIXED WITH RAIN AT TIMES ON FRIDAY. THE SNOW WILL THEN DIMINISH TO SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS SATURDAY MORNING. SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 6 INCHES OR MORE ARE POSSIBLE IN A FEW SPOTS NORTH OF A MERRILL TO IRON MOUNTAIN LINE. So how much is on the ground in the Milwaukee area? I'm finishing up with finals here at school this week so I got a whole month to ride when I get back to Waukesha. The ol' 500 just needs a little finishing up with the preseason maintenance and I'm ready to roll. If anybody is up in the Marquette area later on this winter and wants to ride let me know! I know where all the good back country riding is.

anyone going to the sno-x race at the mile this weekend? I may, depending on if i get a sled this week or not. was really hoping to wait until next year, but i cannot take listening to the sleds passing the house. may be picking up that new sno-pro 500! only thing stopping me is the fact that it will only do 90 mph. my f8 would do 105!??! only 15 mph and D&D makes a 720 kit for them. the handling is supposed to be unreal on these things. which would make sense, it is the race chassis.

Nice! How many hp do these new sleds make?

90 mph from a race sled is a lot, they usually are geared down to about 70.

How much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking?

I have an old 98 ZR500 and i still love the sled. I've been looking around for a Firecat but everyone is still asking a lot for them. I would need to sell my SV650 first though.

$8600 out the door. sled msrp is $8300 i beleive.

sled will do 90 in stock form i am told. D&D makes a 720 kit for it that i plan on getting for it next year. that bumps it up to 130 hp and a 100+ top speed :wooo. guys that have these things are saying they are the best handling sled they have ever ridden. my buddy that works at the dealership drove it and said that it is super snappy. clutch kicks in around 6K. said that it will take some getting used to, but the sled felt so light and nimble. thinking that i may try a clutch kit or different gearing to get some more top speed out of it, but i will see.

there are a few left yet, Pro Motorsports in Fond du Lac has one and i found one at a dealer in madison.:headbang:headbang:headbang:headbang:headb ang:headbang:headbang

can't wait until tomorrow night!!

Nice! Sounds kind of like a phaser with some power. I'm just out of school a year and a half so there won't be a new sled any time soon. I need a place of my own before that can happen, lol.

yup, midcities. last 2 sleds have been from them.

as for the larger motor. the reason i sold my 07 was because i heard rumblings that cat was going to put a 700 motor in this chassis. then i read a press release last week from cat saying that this chassis is not capable of anything larger unless things are changed. i figured might as well get the 5 because anything larger wouldn't be the true race chassis converted for trail. what really swayed me was talking to someone who drove the 720 version of this sled. today is going to be a long day at work!

this thing rips!! holy shit. nothing like a phazer, LOL! it is either going or slowing. i love it. gotta get the 720 kit for some more top end, but this sled is absolutely amazing!!
the power is right there! BAM like billy fuckin mays! the thing is so light that you can do whatever you want with the thing in the corners, gets air off of the smallest of piles, sounds badass, absorbs bumps even better than my twin spar, and has the crispest throttle i have ever felt on a sled, efi or finely tuned carb. i call it my "snotty little bastard".

will try to get pics up tomorrow after i am done riding.

alright. lets try to get some BCM peeps together yet this season for some riding. i have some trips planned for the last 3 weekends in feb, so if anyone wants to join, let me know. here is a breakdown of the trips.

Feb 12-13-14 - White Pine, Michigan.
we will be leaving thursday night and staying at the mineral river lodge in White Pine. At this time, it looks like friday we are planning a big mile day to copper harbor and back. Saturday we may do some messing around with the off trail stuff if other people come up that like that stuff. he usually charges $50 per night and the rooms can sleep 3-4.

Feb 19-20-21- Tomahawk/White Pine
Depending on conditions, we are either going to be heading back to Michigan, or just staying at my place in tomahawk. If we do head up to Michigan, the owner of the lodge is there that weekend and can take you off trail people to heaven. He knows some great areas and is pretty easy to get a long with. If the trails in wisconsin are good, we will leave friday night and go to tomahawk. if trails are junk in Wisconsin, then we will leave thursday night and head straight to White Piine.

Feb 26-27-28 - Tomahawk
This will probably be the final go for me in Wisconsin. We are leaving Friday night, will sled for the early part of saturday and then party hard saturday night. We make a point to go this weekend because of the fisheree that is on Somo Lake. My friend's parents own one of the bars that puts it on, and we usually have a great time. More a party it up weekend then a sledding weekend, but it is an up-north weekend nonetheless.

As of right now, i don't have anything planned for March?!?!?!

here is a video of some of the boondocking around White Pine. again, not my cup of tea, but i may give it a try now that i have a lightweight sled. I am going post the 12-13-14 weekend over at HCS and see if we can get a large group.

lots of people bitching that cat put a little 85 horsepower 500 in the best racing chassis out there. rumors are of a 600 coming next year, but that may not be the case. it doesn't feel like an 85 hp motor and this video shows that. pretty cool. notice that he barely even braaps the throttle to launch the thing.

I'm currently posting from Krupp's in Twin Lakes MI. I'm on my club trip and so far, of the 16 of us that made the trip, we have 4 blown up motors, 1 blown shock, 1 broken wrist, 1 broken recoil, and 1 mud flap with some trail side fixing. It's been quite the trip. It sucks that there's no snow anywhere else so there's a ton of traffic and lots of beat up trails but were still pushing thru. We put on 140 on thursday, 205 yesterday and 190 today with another 120 to get back to Marquette.

well, another season end is closely approaching. anyone planning on a new machine next year? well, it looks like unless cat or poo do something great, the only manufacturer that will be selling new sleds is doo. new 800etec motor is supposed to get 265 miles per quart of oil and upper teens for fuel mileage. all while cranking out 163 horsepower!!! check out the 11 doos here: http://www.ski-doo.com/en-US/Snowmobiles/Renegade/Overview.htm?Sled=RenegadeBackcountryX

Same here, not worth spending 10g on something I ride 5-600 miles a year. Not that I have the $$ anyway.

It would be great to go on long rides and not be so concerned about how far the next gas station is though. If work picks up I would like to get something with rider forward seating and some more power. If not I will keep the f6, mount a sno pro or boss seat and drop some f7 jugs in it over the summer.

Anybody still want to get some awesome trail riding and/or boondocking in, the Marquette to Big Bay area has gotten hammered over the last two weeks, come up and enjoy this snow! Me, my older brother and my pops are going to be putting on some big miles in a week and I will be rolling over 10,000 on my untouched 500 very soon.

edit: it's only 4.5 hours from milwaukee, it's a real easy drive and if anyone wants to be shown the good off trail spots I know the marquette area pretty well

So far the 600's seem good. Yes my dads rush has the flame thrower on decel, but it runs stong as hell and hasnt had one problem to date. Hes raced the cat f6 and DESTROYED it and the yammie nytro seems dead nuts. The 600 etec is a decent race but the rush pulls harder out of the whole and midrange. My carbed 600 rr is pretty much dead nutz with it and the rush has maybe a 1/2 mph on the top. But yes the 800's are junk. Hopefullt the 800 pro-r rush has something way different. They do run decent when they are running though.

well yeah, then something was wrong with it or it didn't have enough miles on it to be at full tilt. everyone else that has driven them and raced them are seeing the complete opposite results. they are seeing 116-118 on gps, so he should have zoomed by you rather easily.

Mine says 110 clamped on the gauge. But we know that isn't accurate... The etec had 3k mi on it. And there was 4 of them. Goodwin has had a prototype 800 since last spring. I could have bought it for 13k when I got mine but I don't like the run away feel of the etec. the doo guys said its normally who gets the better dig. But normally a closer race then it was.

i wouldn't buy a first year 800 e-tec just because there are rumblings of some dependability issues. i just hope that everyone that has a 09/10 renegade 800 feels the need to step up. i have decided to pick up a second sled for the UP. something that i can try out the off trail stuff and also still have 100 mph top speeds. will keep the sp500 for trails around here and up north at my place. it is going to come down to what i can find for a better deal. going to go with either a 09/10 crossfire, or a 09/10 renegade. hopefully the etec kick will drive prices of 09/10 800s down.
