So I'm gonna be looking into buying my first gun fairly soon. I already know it's gonna be a 12 ga, so I just want to know where a good place to buy one may be. I'll be looking to spend no more that $400. I'd prefer a pump or a semi auto.

What are you going to be using it for?

mostly bird, pheasant and duck, possibly for deer

I would look for the tried and true Remington 870 Wingmaster. Great all around gun. You can find pretty good deals on used ones at most gun stores.

I'll look into that! I'm also liking the Stoeger Model 2000. Semi-auto, new starts aroung $479. I've used my friends before, and it shoots great.

QFT, best bang for the buck.

If you get an 870, get an Express and keep it well oiled, as they do rust rather easily. And make sure to get an older one without the stupid trigger lock device. Check Gander Mountains used racks, you will find them there for about the $200 mark on a good day.

$200 is a damn good price, I've got a couple months to think about it, so we'll see what happens.

I'm a snob... I love my Benelli, but that wasn't my first gun either.

I had a pump Winchester Featherlight that I bought used. It had a lot of rounds through it and was had a few trips to the gunsmith. The action finally just failed beyond repair. But I loved it while it worked.

Nice Andy, take him from a $300 gun to a $1300 gun.
