Well it's been a great morning for me, to make a long story short "someone" got my truck stuck on the edge of the driveway ontop of a nice chunk of ice. Rockin' back and forth like a good Wisconsinite, I got it to move a little bit but it was just stuck, all of the sudden no foward gears:rolf:durr.

So my question is how difficult is it to rebuild a 4l60 transmission in a 97' Chevy Silverado? I know this is not a newb task and there are some special tools to get ahold of. I found rebuild kits on flea bay, that are supposed to be all inclusive and able to hold some decent abuse and power.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Anyone want to help a "family" member out? :thumbsup any thoughts are greatly appreacated.

x2 often times you can get a warranty on a used one and just install it yourself. If you've never done it before, you're better off buying used. www.car-part.com

Thats the problem I really don't want to deal with a used one again, I had a 96' Buick Roadmaster with tha LT-1 with the 4l60 and I was changing transmissions as much as I changed the oil in the car. Everyone in my family has had trouble with these transmissions. My father in law has gone though 6 of them in his van in the last 2 years. So I'm a little gun shy with the 4l60............
