My current machine is a Compaq Presario F712NR. Athlon 64 X2 1.7g, 1gb ram, Geforce Go 6100 vid.
Wondering what I can do, if anything to up the video capabilities of this thing. Would like to play some newer games than i currently have, wondering if it's possible.
Says something like my vid card can support up to 880 or some mhz, but I dunno. Also, there is some selector in the BIOS that I can switch to 32, 64, 128 MB, wondering if I should mess with that...
Any help would be great as I really dont know shit about how this crap does what it does.

That changes how much memory is shared between the system and the video card. Bumping it up to 128MB will help some but probably not a lot. Rule number one is never buy a laptop and think you'll be able to play games on it (unless you spend a boatload on one). You can't upgrade them so you're stuck with what you bought.

I'm not saying I want this thing to be as good as an XPS, just want to know what I can do to make it as fast as it's capable of being.

you can upgrade that to 2 gigs of mem, I would start with that. More memory always seems to help out.

It's a laptop, Copernicus.
He said it had a GeForce Go video subsystem in the first post.
GeForce Go is ONLY FOR NOTEBOOKS of maybe small format desktops, but I doubt it. The power requirements are 14.1v, which is laptop format.
Find me a laptop with a bare PCI slot and I will find an uneaten Hot Pocket in your house.

Hey Pickard, if that computer has an AGP slot I'll sell you my 7800GS 256mb (the fastest card that has come out for AGP) for $85, it's the best thing you can do for your computer to keep it playing games at least a little while.
edit; You probably have a PCI-e though..

IT'S A LAPTOP.
IT WON'T TAKE YOUR DVD BURNER, YOUR 500GB HARD DISK, OR YOUR PCI-E CARD.
Jumpin' Jeebus on a Pogo Stick!!!
Maybe I can sell Picard this old Carter AFB carb I have sitting on my workbench.
Works with Athlon, but I am not sure about Pentium.
