Well I think its that time if I were to find a decent deal on a 4x2 or 4x4 truck I would purchase it.
The main model I'm looking at is the 87 to 96 dodge Dakota, I'm thinking the 3.9 L would be perfect. 2 of my buddy's had that motor and they were tanks !!!

An extended Box would be the cats ass :thumbsup more room to haul shit in.

One actually still has the truck with 300,000 + on the OD and keeps running, the other sold it with high miles. If I can remember right my other buddy's truck had 270ish and from what I know its still kicking.

I think one needed a rear end replaced at one time, they did beat the hell out of them.
For those that have either worked at the Dodge Dealerships, what is your take on these items :

4x4 tranny's and full setup ? ( I have seen a few Dakotas on CL with blow trannys, seems that the 4x4 relation is there  )

Any years to look for or stay away from ?

What about 5-speed and 4x2 or 4x4 ?

Any years to stay away from ?

The other option would be picking up a Nissan or Toyota Truck, what model I'm not sure. Then only down fall with any import is the sheer price of god dam parts. :wooo

Here are a few that are on craigslist :

Don't get an extended cab dak/4x4 with a 3.9...WAY too heavy for that engine. 3.9 should be darn reliable though...basically a 318 shortened. Get a 92 or later though for certain. 91 and before where 125hp wonders...later ones were 175.

I'd lean to a reg cab, 4x4 or ext cab 4x2...

Also, keep an eye out for the later model years (05 maybe 04 too?) with the 3.7...a bit more power and torque (210/235 vs 175/225)
and more importantly, does everything better while getting better mileage.

The 5 speed, and later 6 speed dak's are nice though...my preference, if you don't really tow more than 4,000 lbs would be that.

For the most part, really can't go wrong with most of the smaller pick-ups though...

buy a 92-96 dakota, I haven't had a single thing happen to my truck that hasn't been my fault, just rolled 220,000 over the week. I got 235 horse at the tire and the trans hasn't given up yet. I love this truck, buy one!!!!!!!! and get a 5.2, you'll thank yourself, got around 14 mpg with it stock
