Just the specs on it are insane.
3370hp @ 1750rpms, couldnt find torque specs on the engine
6.7in bore
8.5in stroke
7,143 cubes of displacement
Operating weight: 1,375,000lbs :wooo
The stripped chassis alone is 473,600lbs
wheel lugs are torqued to something to the tune of 2200ft lbs

Fluid capacities:
Fuel: 1800gal
Cooling System: 315gal
Crankcase: 115gal
Differentials: 185gal
Steering System: 114gal
brake and hoist system: 486gal

I love amazing machines like this. Watching how its put together is even more impressive.

its amazing at some of the stuff they make. i get to see big machinery all the time, my step-dad works at Vulcan Materials (Quarry in Racine). its cool to be in a loader that you can park your truck in.

Its just amazing what these machines are capable of. The amount of work that goes into manufacturing them.....

well when watching it on TV, it just looked like high power welders, but they werent necessarily gigantic. They mentioned each joint uses a few hundred pounds of welding wire. For the larger joints they used robotic welders controlled by 9 computers. The hard to get ones were hand welded, and those joints could take 3-4 hours each depending on the welders speed. I wonder what those guys earn in a year....

theres another amazing factory thing on national geo. They are making winnebago frames. If I heard correctly, they assemble the suspension, steering, drive axle, engine, and transmission all together into the frame in 2 hours.

That truck is nothing. Check this thing out. By far the biggest moveable machine on the planet.

World's Largest Digging Machine
(or wouldn't you like one of these babies in your garden shed?)
This is the largest digging machine (or trencher or rotating shovel) in the world. It was built by Krupp and is shown here crossing a road in Germany on the way to its destination, an open air coal mine. Although at the mine the treads are unnecessary, it was cheaper to make the machine self-propelled than to try and move it with conventional hauling equipment.

Some factoids:

The machine is 95 meters high and 215 meters long (almost 2.5 football fields in length)

Weight is 45,500 tons (that's equivalent to a bumper to bumper line of jeeps 80 miles long)

It took 5 years to design and manufacture at a cost of $100 million

Maximum digging speed is 10 meters per minute

Can move more than 76,000 cubic meters of coal, rock, and earth per day

in sheer size, yes its bigger, but the dump truck has more mass in a smaller area. but both are just ungodly amazing. just thinking about the power in those machines..... man. sweet.

How else you think a ugly fat ass like me can (could) consistently pull such fine ass tail.

So you have just classified yourself as a tool, correct?

Some of that stuff is just ridiculous. It's amazing the machinery that it takes to make that huge machinery.

I work at Bucyrus in the IT department. You should see these things being welded, machined, ect. in the shops! They are so huge the machines have to be constructed on-site. A few of the gears themselves are roughly 20 feet in diameter... :stare

I get more amazed when walking thru a factory that makes something. I look at the machines and think, theres a machine somewhere that makes this machine. And then there's a machine that makes the machine that is making this machine. And so on and on.

Then I go crosseyed and hurt my brain.

I used to work at Helgeson Industries in Hartford making radiators for some of cats mining equipment and some of them were pretty big.
