Thought it was a great movie! Definitely something to see in a nice theater or on dvd with a nice system (there's a pre-production dvd version running around already).

If you see it in a theater definitely bring some motion sickness pills as the whole movie is from a hand held cam.

btw its definitely not a happy ending movie.

i have noticed a few movies with the not-so-happy endings......anyone see "the mist?" it was excellent, but the ending was horrifying. i read the novella, and it ended kind open, but the movie........wow....i am intrigued by "cloverfield," i'll probably see it tomorrow, but yeah, i keep thinking "godzilla" too everytime i see the trailers for it.

Seems to be a polarizing movie. Either people love it, or people are walking out on it cause the camera is ruining it. Not alot of inbetween.

Also in the beginning previews you get to see the new preview for star trek, where they're actually building the enterprise.

I dunno its been a while since I've seen that movie. However I've never gotten sick on anything except the shitty back to the future ride at universal, and this movie left me a lil queezy. Was worth it imo.

The director said it was based off the fact that Japan has Godzilla, and America has nada.. I read on yahoo he was in Japan with his son looking at a row of Godzilla toys.. and thought, we need our own monster, thus cloverfield was born.. yay:)

What theaters you guys seeing this in? Marcus theaters were not showing it as of friday the 18th... Did they finally finish nagotiations to show it?

i saw it at mayfair mall's AMC theater, they were showing it on several screens. here's my review: the camera shaking is bad, but not terribly distracting, maybe because of watching so much shaky-camera stuff on youtube and so on. the movie is not bad, really, but i personally found it's 9/11 quality disturbing. i also had a hard time with a few scenes that left me with a big "yeah, right...." feeling. there's a whole lot of unbelievablity to it, which i suppose is ok for a monster movie. overall, not bad, but i wasn't particularly awed by it. it kinda....fell short of all the hype, somehow. out of five stars, i'd give it 2.5.

I finally saw this tonight. The beastie has potential, otherwise this movie sucked dead donkey balls. In the end when the chick asks, "Why us?" I answered "Because you all sucked!" out loud and got more of a positive reaction the the crappy movie did.

IMO, instead of being done from the perspective of a private video camera and absolutely wasting 20 minutes of my life, it should have been done from the perspective of an "On Location" news team. It would've given them an excuse for professional quality video while still being from a fresh viewpoint.
