Half the stuff I ever saw them make on Monster Garage was nothing I would pay to own...maybe if it was given to me.

Holy Shit! a 1980 Turbo TA with 7300 miles on it got $63K

That is crazy money for that car, regardless of miles. I knew the 2nd gens were going up in value.

Deggy
01-15-2008, 08:16 PM
Weren't the turbo TA's like turbo 301's and were balls ass slow?

Karps TA
01-15-2008, 08:23 PM
yes they were turds performance wise, but so was everything back then.

I knew the 2nd gen market was going up, but that's a crazy number. Makes me mad I've passed up so many of them over the years.

Deggy
01-15-2008, 08:24 PM
Turds no doubt, but i like 2nd gen f-bodies.

and for 1 to go for 63k...wow.

Karps TA
01-15-2008, 08:26 PM
I was expecting the market to really dump this year due to the mortgage crisis and the economy kinda sucking. But so far it's not.

And remember that with the prices, BJ makes 10% on the buyer, and 8% on the seller.

Deggy
01-15-2008, 08:28 PM
Was it just a stock TA? or was it modified and such.

Karps TA
01-15-2008, 08:41 PM
Dead stock, 7300 original miles.

Deggy
01-15-2008, 08:43 PM
oh, the mileage is what sold it.....wow

Barrett Jackson showcases rich stupid people without a clue wanting to get on TV. A 2nd gen T/A for 63K??? WTF is wrong with people? Shoot that ******* guy in the head!

Some of the other cars looked like crap, I thought they inspected the cars first. That blue Mustang you could find on the crappy used car lots in Madison, they showed a lot of rust in the trunk and the guy did not remove all the rust before he painted it as it was bubbling up all over the place, and other cars had nice paint but they did not re-chrome all the grills, bumpers and trim as it was flaking off and looked real bad, but they still sold for a very high price.

The first nights are alway the low end stuff. They could never support 5 nights of just all high end cars.

And if you're the one selling a car and getting top dollar I'm sure you're not complaining.

Waver
01-16-2008, 07:38 AM
so what do you think there will be more of in the the top 10....Ford, Gm, or Chrysler....I think last year there were more Fords in the top 10 however Gm had the highest dollar because of some concept car or somthing

I was floored when that blue El Camino went for $23K. Yes, it was an original numbers matching SS 396 car, BUT it was a repaint with the wrong color and the worst part was it had trailer wheels on it !!!!

Waver
01-16-2008, 08:20 AM
those were trailor wheels.....wow...I didnt even notice that...I am surprised that a lot of the 64 1/2 msutangs that they had were going so low, and the 06 shelby gt-h went for 45,000 when some have been going for 50-60k

yeah, i thought that it would go for closer to 30K for sure. never looked at the wheels that close. seems like most the cars auctioned needed new wheels and tires IMO.

as for the auction, me and a buddy were going to go last year for sh!ts and giggles. we were going to sit in the bidders section and bid on a car just so we could say that we did it. never went though, maybe next year.:thumbsup

The market is tanking, any there probably wont be to many hemi cars there this year, because everyone last year was trying to unload them and they last their a$$ on them. The 70 hemi cuda last year that was sub-lime the guy took a $200,000 bath on that car. If you look closely the clones are going down in value as well as the top end cars are bringing anywhere from $200k-$500k less than years before. Don't get me wrong these cars will never be $5,000 cars again but the market is starting to level off which is good for the blue collar workers that enjoy this hobby and not in it for the money.

The guy that just bought the Green 66 GTO was former Brewers (and current Diamondbacks) pitcher Doug Davis. 2 cent trivia... :thumbsup

i agree that the market has leveled off to a certain extent. Rare cars will always be rare cars and I think the market is so precise for who can actually buy those that the values will still increase. Maybe not like the housing boom that we had a few years ago where overnight your house is worth $10K more but these cars will still always increase in value.

In the next few years we will see a rise in "oddball" collector cars. 4-doors, wagons, odd years etc so that the average joe can still wrench on something with his son in the garage. 1st Camaros for example are so expensive now, the average person can't afford to buy a $7500 basket case needing a FULL restoration. So they might look elsewhere. A 4-door chevelle that is REALLY nice with fresh paint etc and a rebuilt drivetrain for $7500 looks a lot better.

I thought last night had alot of pretty good buys. Quite a few cars went for less money then I think it would cost to replicate them. There was a 68 Firebird that was beautiful that went for $30K that seemed like a great deal.

I was so pissed last night at my roommate.... I had been watching for 3 1/2 hours before he got back and when he came back he was like "I'm gonna find something interesting on" and changes the channel! I said I was watching it but he just kept on going. Then he sat down for five minutes called one of his thug friends and left 5 minutes later. :fire

Anyway, the real point is... did anything cool go in the last 15-20 mins?

i'd have to disagree with you on this one.....granted the stuff they actually made i would never pay for, but if someone did the same concepts they did but took out the 7 day timeline then i think i'd buy some of them. to me i think a lot of what they made looked like shit b/c of the timelines

Heh this should bea record year for collectors cars! Since all the above is making a shit sandwhich out of its self, people are back to investing money in cars, esp high end muscle cars. So it should be intresting to see what things will peak at. Perfect time to sell that 68' ive got frementing.

I love seeing all these C2 vettes and 55-57's because a lot of the things they talk about in restoring some of them are things my boss has had me pay attention to on the cars at work.

Bentley Smentley... he would've been better off with an 86 Fleetwood with a Bentley grill
