Neenah, Wisconsin police use cardboard cut-outs to slow speeders

Wisconsin has such a speeding problem that it can't keep up. Even with a full court press of law enforcement, drivers continue to speed and have even sped by other motorists receiving their obligatory revenue-production invoice. In an effort to keep drivers on their toes while also leaving time to fight real crimes, the Neenah PD will post cardboard cutouts that look like an officer pointing a radar gun in strategic locations. Like something out of Weekend At Bernie's, the paper tigers will be rotated with living, breathing officers so that the ruse has a chance of effecting change. At this point, it's less about filling the coffers and more about quelling an epidemic of overly-velocitized drivers.

How long before they all get stolen?

What would be funnier is if you dressed them up instead of steal them.

Like if someone were to make a graphic design of hairy legs in biker shorts and just quick pin it to the cardboard. Or make it like he's not wearing any pants. Or put a wig on him. Or put a stuffed animal pig with a leash tied to the cardboard, hahaha

I wonder what works better , the cardboard cutout or the empty squad the MCSD leaves on the side of the freeway from time to time.

Anyone remember the empty shell Ford Explorer that was done up like a cop car that they used to put in the emergency lane over the by the Mitchell interchange? That slowed people down pretty good until everyone knew what it was.

Since when does WI have a speeding problem? Everytime I'm on the road the person in front of me is going 5 under and in the left lane?

I'd say we have the opposite of a speeding problem.

I wonder if I could scare people still by putting a pushbar and spotlight on the caprice, and parking on a side street with the lights off.

Door County Sherriffs Dept. has store manachins(sp?) that are dressed up in a marked squad always sitting on 57 in Jacksonport/Bailey's Harbor area. It would sit for months, and all the FIBS and FISHTAB's would jam on the brakes...

I'm sure there is a huge huge fine for stealing one of those. Probably not a real great idea to be posting on here that you are going to do it. It's a shame that the reason they have those is because of people like you guys that would steal them. The city would replace them, no doubt, and there is one less real cop on the street then because of your stupid antics.

how will that make one less cop on the street, if they have such a huge speeding problem then why not just write a ton of tickets and generate more revenue so they can hire more cops? im sure there isnt much other crime in neenah anyways.
