So today is my first day off for at least two months! I took a voluntary lay off so I can finally start looking for a new job. I'm working at a part job now 1 day a week so it doesn't get dig into my unemployment too much. :goof

Generac is laying off?

Yup, 9 out of the 17 people in my department on 2nd shift were laid off. Not enough generator sales. We pretty much depend on natural disaters to sell our product for us, but we haven't had too many of those lately.

nice pay?!?!?! Maybe when you were there! Pay sucks now. I liked the work, but my job was easily worth $5.00 more per hour.

How much did you make for which job ?

12.59 per hour for quality control in department 21 and in charge of a couple of other guys. Lots of responsibility and I'm always busy, a hard worker, but they just don't think my job is worth much more than that.

You're absolutely correct, but for me to get paid that little to make sure that all of the generators I inspect are built correctly and are leaving the door built right. And I definately worked my hardest and did a damn good job everyday.

What ever happened to that saying you get what you pay for,and when will employers figure that out? Then again if we get too greedy, they'll just send their work over seas or WAY down south, their are plenty of people in other countrys who are happy to work for $2 a week.Sorry for the rant,I'm just sick of cheap @$$ corporations.

I've considered it, but its just not my thing. I kind of prefer working in a factory setting. We'll see what happens in the future, I'll try to find something similar to what I'm doing now, hopefully it'll pay more!

it's more about how much someone else would take per hour to do your job, and how many people are capable of filling that posistion.

Good kill on the down time though.

Not too many people are capable of doing this job, at least not anyone I was working with when I was there. The people I worked with prefered to not think. Just do the same thing day in, day out. At least my day was always somewhat interesting and I got to use my brain.

Yea I guess that was kind of a rip for QC. I am going off wages ten years ago, I guess workers have become more plentiful since then.
Did you atleast get a super bonus from the Kerns ? :D

I worked for Generac for 1 1/2 yrs and got low balled on pay the entire time. Got laid off a few months ago from them and had a job somewhere else the next day to tie me over. I'll be looking for new internships soon again.

may be a dumb ass question....but are you guys union out there....no flames please...just a simple question....if not...then they must think that job pays just that and they can get anyone else to do your job....granted you are right by saying your deserve more money for all that you do and what rests on your shoulders if something goes to the crapper on a generator....i would say your type of jod decription would pay at least 20.00 hr....i've worked in factory when i was younger...but i was union ...in 1976 i was making more an hour then you are right now and i was an inspector at American Can Company in milwaukee.....but that was then....what about tring to get into Harley doing what you do now.....hell go work with santa...that job by him pays more then what your getting....

You can always go to harley and apply, just be prepared for it to be 2 years for you to get in. If you are ok with that, apply, get a different job and then see what happens later. There are gonna be a lot of people retiring I hear so go now if it interests you. They are great to work for.

That's what I'm waiting for upon graduation. I heard they don't really hire their interns so I'm holding out for that job. I've had a few job offers with companies outta state like Ohio and so forth on but we'll see where the money takes me :thumbsup

No they normally outsource for interns. The thing is though, if you are an intern there, and they like you, once your foot is in the door you will more than likely be able to stay. The reason I know all of this was because I worked there for about 3 years. Started as a high school co op(working directly for harley) then moved to an intern working for some staffing place. I have nothing bad to say about that company through my time there.

They may have told you about lack of disaster, but the real culprit is cheap chinese generators. Check out those wholesale tool retailers and you will see what I mean. Just don't depend on that junk to last, though.

That stuff looks like straight junk.

Generac also uses cheap imported engines on their lower end stuff, The engines look like a honda clone to me.

The small air cooled generators are all Generac motors, the smaller liquid cooled engines are 1.6L motors that were used in the Ford Escorts of the 80's. Those aren't too bad. We've had nothing but problems with the Dodge 3.9L from the Dakota's. Those are crap motors, so we stopped using those about 1.5 years ago.
