On a 60's musclecar what do you think, dogdsih caps, factory rally type wheels, or aftermarket wheels?

Karps TA

Totally depends on the car and the desired look.

Although I think a set of like Pro Stars looks good on anything.

depends on the actual car you are talking about.

'62-'64 B-body or any "super stock" style car - dog dish hubcaps

'68-'70 Muscle Cars I gotta go with Factory ralley's

Aftermarket if you can afford it. Staggered. some 19" steam rollers on back and 18's up front. with a nice lip. Thats to modernize a 60's car.

I love this look

my brother had a bugandy with black interior 1964 442...in 1970...it sported the old KEYSTONE CLASSICS....looked sharp as hell......not the fastest car he owned...but it looked nice.....always liked them 64 442's....cragar s/s were a dated wheel back then as well.and ANSEN slots.....i hated the chrome reverse wheels with baby moons back then...i'm old i remember those things.....

I am leaning towards dogdishes for my car. The right 64 ones are hard to find though. I may go with Olds Rallys though (AKA SSIII's). I don't really like anything bigger than 17's.
Course I could rock the 14" Alum slots I brought it home on....not :rolf

I pretty much like most the factory ralleye and dog-dish types, but also love the period correct stuff too (slots, 5 star, torq-thrust, etc)

Most look good as long as it has the proper off-set and fits the theme of the car...

01-06-2008, 08:17 PM
the slots you have look similar to mine...mine aren't as wide though and look a little more proportioned on my car.

Yeah they're 14X7 I think the offset was like 3.5" . Def not going to use them but the keep the drums off the floor

Yep southern CO. Middle of nowhere. I would love to take a semi truck carhauler out there. All kinds of rust free 60's pickups everywhere just sitting in the yards next to the 70's one and 80's ones:rolf

Funny...it's nearly the exact color scheme (nearly identical blue with white vinyl top) as the 68 coronet i've got with similar slot wheels.

I've got some decent period correct aftermarket rims, 15" if you are interested.

Dogdish caps look good on a lot of the cars, but on something like an e-body or GTO the "rallye" style wheels are a lot cooler.

It was original a maroon /white top car according to the trim tag. But it'll stay these colors for a while.

I'll let you know about the wheels. I have to see what'll be left in the budget after the interior stuff and radiator is ordered:wow

What style are they?

Prince Valiant
01-07-2008, 05:26 PM
off the top of my head they were a magnum type...it's been a while since I've looked at them. Don't think they were a particular wheel for a brand/model, but just an aftermarket type. I'll get some pics when I get a chance...

Well I was kind of asking in general because I was curious about other peoples tastes and also trying to help me decide for my own car.
I like all 3 looks:goof

It's got a mild BBO in it so I don't need pro street style meats :rolf

I love the poverty cap look, but finding them (the right ones for 64) is hard. I am not sure that's the sleeper look anymore, since it only seems like fast cars are doing it:rolf

I like the Olds Rally look and have a few I could use, both the chromed ones from my wifes 86 442 ( I have to buy her another set when we get her car done) and the regular 70's/80's with the trim rings in 14 and 15"

I like some aftermarket wheels , Prostars, TT II's etc in 15-17". I don't like 19 or 20" on a car, but they may break the immediate budget, since I want to put in new seat covers, door panels, carpet etc.

It's a 455, with unported irons and a tiny cam 214/224@.050 .472/.496 with a performer manifold and either a Q-jet or 750 holley. The rear is either an open 3.08 or an open 3.42 depending on when I change to the 8.5. Just got a driveshaft from a friend on sat:headbang

Yeah eventually I am going to put in one of the Lunati Voodoo cams, but that's after the car's all together

Prince Valiant
01-08-2008, 07:11 PM
It'd be interesting to get the baseline times on that combo...probably would be pretty good. Bigger cam than mine, deeper gears than mine, and a WHOLE LOT more cubic inches, lol.

Rocket Power
01-08-2008, 07:57 PM
My guess if it hooks with the open rear would be in the high 13's low 14's. I know a guy with a G-body same basic motor (cam, comp, intake) but head work and a 3.42 posi in mid 12's, but that's with head work and a lot of tuning and a 700r4 with the deeper 1st gear than any trans I'm gonna run. Looks like my shopping list @ year one is around $1K :wow So that cam will most likely stay the same for a bit:goof
