well I have a wheel bearing taking a shit on my 2006 silverado 4x4. its a 1500 4x4, IFS front end. Front left is failing. Its a sealed unit, hub and bearing is all one unit. I got my axle nut socket, got the bearing/hub unit, and im all ready to go. anything I need to know before tackling this tonight? Im told its fairly easy, and it looks pretty easy too. remove axle nut, remove caliper and rotor, and there are three bolts that hold this hub unit in place, then reverse all that for the install. any tips or tricks or anything I should know about this kind of task?

well I just got it done. took a total of 45 minutes for removal, 30 for install (less for install cuz I knew exactly what was goin on by then) and now its perfect. not that bad of a job, just axle grease everywhere lol.

Why would there be axle grease...do you have a C/V boot torn open? As you said, the bearing is a sealed unit....

let me clarify that....

chassis grease. ball joints are right there, and I guess the dealership felt the need to load em up till they gushed out everywhere.

i will say that the job was a lot easier then I thought it would be. just tight clearences getting a socket wrench on the top bolt with the balljoint there and the cv boot, but I got it done

Its very easy. THe only problem you somtimes have is getting the hub out of the knuckle, but considering that truck is so new, im sure that went easy. Problems like this is why I bought an extended warranty though!! Always happens as soon as warranty is up.

it wasnt bad at all. i took a small tiny flathead screw driver and gently tapped it evenly all around it and it just pulled itself right out of the knuckle. It was almost harder getting the new hub back into the knuckle :rolf
