Some pics from last October's event ....

As most know the Midwest F-Body Assoc has the track event at Road America every April & October. Road America is an hour north of Milwaukee in Sheyboyan county. At 4.2 miles with 14 turns, its America's longest race track and everything from AMA Superbikes, CHAMP CAR, LeMans, One lap of America, SCCA, VSCDA Vintage Assoc and many other sanctioning bodies race there each year.
Quite a few from here run thier cars during the MFBA events already and now there's more & more volunteering to work it as well:headbang.

It'd be cool to have a showing of cars from here up there this upcoming April. So lets get as many cars & people as we can up there. I'm not saying you have to go out and convert your car to a GT1 class LeMans road racer, but just bring it up & park it in the paddock and hang out with other car nuts for the weekend and check out the many rides there. I gaurantee you'll see cars you prob won't see anywhere else and definately not driving like this! OR muchless have a chance to ride shotgun in them at high speeds & pulling G-forces.
Bring your helmet and go for ride-alongs too! The only limitation on being a passenger is that you are wearing a helmet, the car has a 2nd seat and are 16 years old.

Hey John, Great pics, especially the RED HOT BRAKE ROTORS!

all you need to do for the brakes,
is on the FRONT only,

Pull out the stock Brake pads,
and install Track Pads,

Like Carbotech XP8's 10 or 12
http://www.ctbrakes.com/products.html
or
HAWK Blue 9012
http://www.hawkperformance.com/motorsports/compounds/index.php

and flush the front brake calipers with NEW fresh brake fluid.

and you are3 good to go onto a race track!

With even just a teensy bit of luck, I'll be up there in a freshly purchased 5.0. Whether or not I'll be running is yet to be seen. What's it cost to run?

Even if I don't have a car by then, I'll try to come and spectate. Gotta find a helmet though. I found one a basic, full face helmet a year or so ago for around $80. What's the usual price range for a helmet?

Last thing: stock fox body/SN95 on RA with a never-raced-before driver: good idea or bad? Maybe I'll just spectate/try and go for a ride-a-long to get a feel for things before I jump into it.

Cool, come on up- car or no car. Theres plenty to see & do up there.

$220 to run 1 day
$385 to run 2 days
$15 Saturday Night Dinner off site, one ticket
$5 Daily spectator fee

Make sure your helmet has at least a Selll 2000 rating. Expect to pay $100 & up for a helmet. Buy new, not used. A full faced isnt required.

Being a Noob there, you should ride with an instructor/have one ride with you and you'll be placed in out Novice (D) group. We want you and that car coming home in 1 piece. Not a bad idea at all to bring it out- We're ALL noob's at one point.

Car prep- good tires, fresh pads, rotors & fluids (BRAKE fluid). See the website for all the things we're looking at during tech. Theres alot of Stangs up there and you'll find at least 3 COBRA R's. Usually 1 '95 and 2 '00's.

definitely good brakes and tires ftw! i would reccoment carbotec or the higher grade hawks.. slotted rotors are optional, the solid ones work just as well...
my car is a little lighter than most of them out there, so i get away with running some lighter pads and stock sized rotors, but i've got brembo rotors on the back(better quality than the parts store stuff, and they're cryo'd) and powerslot 2's on the front(slotted and dimpled)... cross-drilled is not your friend....

02-21-2008, 10:06 PM
Well, I've got a car. It'll be a couple weeks before the dust clears and it's ready to hit the road, but I would really like to run it. I took a glimpse into the future and my money's gonna be tight. But we'll see. I also might get my friend with his '95 5.0 vert to come out and run, he said he's very interested in it.

What if someone wants a print afterwards from my shots or is this just in regards to taking the pics in the first place? If there's an 'official' rule book for photographers for this rental day, point me to it please. I'm just going to get practice, and enjoy taking the shots, but if someone wants a print, I would think I should be able to get that for them. But if not, oh well, I'll still be there :)
