Me neither till I saw one at a car show this year, lol. They are pretty rare from what the guy was saying, his was a "Euro" model or some such thing.

Yeah, they made them in manual.....simular to the one in the gtz if I am correct...if you ever drove one with the manual, you will know what a difference it makes....

I had a 92 Z34 auto. Pretty quick and decent looks but I had more problems with that car then I cared to deal with. Oil leak, alt (had to remove just about everything from the car to get to it), timing belt, not fun when stuff goes bad on those motors.

Yeah the 5speed Luminaries with the light-speed 3.4 were pretty fast for the time (similar to the 5speed SHOs they competed with) but the engines are just a nightmare to work on from what I've read, far more so than most transverse V6 applications

I had a shop replace the alt after it went bad since you had to pull the steering colum and some suspension parts to get to it. Ended up costing me a lot of money when I was in HS, but it was better than doing it myself at the time.

The 3.4DOHC engine was pretty much an attempt by GM engine designers to do whatever they could to piss off the mechanics at GM dealerships. It was the worst designed package they could come up and still have the engine located under the hood.

the crappy 3.1 cars had the Getrag 282

the 3.4 cars didn't have the same trans as the GTZ.
they had a Getrag 284. They were mid 15 sec cars.

If that Lumina didn't need a motor, I'd combine it with mine and make a super lumina.

The 3.4DOHC engine was pretty much an attempt by GM engine designers to do whatever they could to piss off the mechanics at GM dealerships ALONG WITH ANYBODY ELSE THAT ATTEMPTED TO WORK ON THEM...!!! It was the worst designed package they could come up and still have the engine located under the hood.

I have never looked at it that way ^^^ but it wouldn't surprise me if it was true.....:goof

I'm not a big GM fan to begin with but even if I was I would still hate working on those engines, and I like Z34 Lumina's as far as the design goes. It actually reminds me of many 'older' cars that were built with no 'forward' thinking involved; just build it to build it and that was it.....

As far as comparing them to the 100% Yamaha built V6's of the same time period (that came in the SHO Taurus') it's not even close.....:chair:

I took my drivers test on my mom's 92 z34 with a 5 speed and passed, who knows it could be the same car, and I bought a 92 white with red interior z34 with a 5 speed, I miss that car, it would give the fox body mustangs a run for there money.

A well versed W body enthusiast can change that alternator that in 2 hours dropping the lower the rear of the sub and poping a tie rod.
The oil leak is an oil pump drive O ring in many cases.
Regardless the "engineering marvel" that was the Twin Dual Cam Chevy Citation engine is a pile a junk thats not worthy of a timing belt swap.
I had a 95 GTP that was much nicer with a 3.8 than the TDC 3.4.

Even knowing the motors, I think 2 hours is pushing it. The dist. o-ring leaks often...probldem is, you have to pull the rear head to get the dist. drive out to change it! talk about a joke, those engines are the WORST to work on I've ever seen.
