would you consider these competitors?

on the grand am forum this guy is trying to tell me that the skyline will be some serious competition for the new corvette...i just don't think it will be that much of a threat. he saying because its AWD that it will handle better...but thats the only thing he had to say.

what do you guys think.

i would consider them competitors. the GT-R will give the vette a good run. sounds like 0-60 and 1/4 mile times will be pretty much the same between the two. can the vette outhandle the GT-R on the road coarse??? i would think so, but it will be closer then some would like.

i think the AWD and RWD will make the difference, but on the road course i dont think the vette will have to much difficulty compared to the AWD GT-R.

Even though the GTR is AWD and has a very good traction control system, I personally think that the rwd corvette will have an advantage at speed due to its superior power-weight ratio.

this guys was using the term "Vette Killer" when he mentioned the Skyline GT-R.

that is a false statement if i've ever read one.

would love to work for motortrend to test them both!

they were not referring to the zr1. the GT-R should have no problem with the Z06, that is what he was talking about. everyone including nissan, has been labeling the car as that for a long time.

See thats what I was thinking...maybe in terms of the Z06, yeah the new GT-R would run laps around that. But it definetly will be close battle between the ZR1 and the GT-R.

that artcle that was posted about the ZR1 said its 0-60 times is somewhere in the mid 3's.

the GT-R has done it in 3.3, so the vette better hook up to beat that!

is the new GT-R an inline 6?

I would consider the fact that you are getting your info about a ZO6 and a Skyline from a GrandAm forum.......

no it is a v6:

• VR-series twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6.
• 480 hp @ 6,400 rpm. 430 lb-ft torque @ 3,200–5,200 rpm.
• Dual overhead camshafts with variable intake-valve timing.
• Cast aluminum cylinder block with high-endurance/low-friction plasma-sprayed bores.
• IHI twin turbochargers, one per cylinder bank.
• Pressurized lubrication system with thermostatically controlled cooling.

i am sure that the guy that is bragging about the GT-R is planning on trading his grand am in as soon as the nissan hit the shores of the US

i thought it was around 80K for a fully loaded. i am sure that the dealers will mark them up, nissan said they could not stop that.

are the GT-R Skylines still made on the same platform as the G35?

The ZR1 will destroy the GT-R. The GT-R will probably be pretty close competition for the Z06, though.

Rumor has it that the GT-R did a lap of the Nurburgring in Germany several seconds faster then the Z06. Not a HUGE gap given the long lap times, though (7:30+).

Deggy

7:30 on Nurburgring.....wow...i couldn't even do a 8:00 in my Lingenfelter Vette on Forza 2.....oh wait, then again i sucked in that game with RWD.

if the car can attack Nurburgring ahead of another super car, it has my attention. I hope the GTR backs up all its hype. It should be interesting!

Ya I agree the thread should be Z06 vrs. New Skyline GTR. I highly doubt it will be a challenge to the ZR1 in ANY category including the 1/4. AWD or not. But then again isn't the ZR1 going to be thousands more than the GTR?

The Mustang will still kill both with it's superior interior and "Gotta have it" factor.

Both the ZR1 and the GTR are great cars. I would probably want the GTR on a road course.

This is how it's gonna be

C6 Z06 VS. New GT-R

C6 ZR1 VS. New GT-R V-Spec. I hear they are dropping ATLEAST 500lbs out of the Vspec and adding more horsepower.

end of the day

Nissan > Chevy

you'd get it if you read the infamous 05 GTO v.s. 05 Mustang Car & Driver Review. Mustang got owned in like every category, but they created a "gotta have it factor" worth a whopping 25 points in which the Stang got all 25, while it's counterpart got hammered, so it could win the points game..

Here is a great article by Edmunds on the GTR. They just tested a Japanese production vehicle. 0-60 in 3.3, 1/4 mile in 11.6 @ 120.9. All of this at 3,836 pounds. The new Z06 did 0-60 in 3.6, 1/4 mile in 12.0 @121.0. The MSRP for the GTR will be $69,800, very similar to the Z06.

Personally it is a matter of personal preference, but put it this way, I own an 02 Z06 and will most likely be selling it and my G35 for the GTR. You can't go wrong with either the Z06 or the GTR, but I feel that the GTR has a little more bang for the buck and more daily drivability.

How can you know if the GTR has better daily drivability yet? :durr

Just an assumption with AWD. Even on days when its below 45 the PS2's on the Z06 don't want to grip the road for $hit.

I disagree. The ZR1 is almost a track prepped car, the brakes being the perfect example. Even with the 500lb drop it will still be heavier than the vette. Probably with less horsepower too.

I don't know about that, but I'm sure it will get better gas mileage :durr
