My rims are 2-piece, and I want to take them apart so I can refinish the lip.
But the bolts that hold the faces on, the heads are an 8-point star pattern.
Exactly like a Torx, but with 2 more points.

I've never seen a bit like that? :confused
Almighty Google doesn't even give me anything.

Pix can be provided if necessary.

Thanx! :thumbsup

Go to Harbor Freight and buy their 100 pc "Security Bit Set" in a red plastic case. $7 and you'll shit yourself when you see what it's all got. Even the ALMIGHTY T8 Torx bit that NOBODY has, which can be used to open hard drives etc...

EDIT: I just realized the bolts on your rims are probably too big. The ones in the HF case are mostly screwdriver sized.

Actually I think you're right! I think that case does have the right bit.

I dunno, they aren't all that big.
I have a 60-piece set, and some of the Torx/Hex bits are bigger than what I'd need.

(dirtier than Jamie Lynn Spears, but you get the idea)

8-point. It is common to older British automobiles.

Mac, Matco or Snap on sells that bit.

You realize those arent just going to fall apart, right?

You''l more than likely have to heat the rim with a large torch somehow to expand it.

Good luck.

Guess I'll find out!
I'm going to attempt it on the worst rim first.

I'm hoping they weren't made like that (heat expanded/cold shrunk).

Also hoping they aren't welded 2-piece, which I doubt they are, since the bolts/rivets are just for show on those. I know mine are removeable.

I should probably contact the company and ask if the bolts are re-usable, if the used loctite, etc, blah, damn pre-prep prep work :)
