Hmmm......It may be time for a very early mid life crisis......

600hp with a supercharged engine... Im hoping this will go the way of the 03-04 cobra's and the supercharger has a hell of alot more potential. 750hp with bolt ons would be impressive!

I notice there is no prospective MSRP listed.......

Lol i bet this thing doesnt even make over 10PSI in factory trim. The aftermarket should have a blast with these things.

If the bottom end is anything like the LS7, I predict seeing 1000 HP bolt on builds by the dozen!!

It's pretty obvious all it would take is more boost (and possibly a bigger blower). Hope the drivetrain is stout enough to handle all that power! Wonder if they made any significant changes to the trans?

One strange thing is they quote only 595 LB-FT torque.... Seems hard to believe given the nature of a positive displacement Roots blower and the size of the engine. I would guess they have either some serious torque management arbitrarily crippling the peak torque, or it's just a flat out lie and the real number is substantially higher. I couldn't find any mention of the specific RPM of the engine or the redline either.

EDIT: They say 6,600 RPM

Not a bad looking car, but I think the price tag will be near, or above, the Ford GT level ($150K). Remember, back in 1989 the sticker for a ZR1 was $66K, and that was a HUGE sticker price for a car back then for those youngins on the board :rolf

I dunno..... I guess we will see. If that thing is over 90K they can send it back to the R&D department! That is alot of money. I personally could not justify that. Id rather pick up a 2007 1LT C6 for 40K, dump 15K into it and have a hell of alot more car then then a stock Z06 or this ZR1.

In theroy its cool, the possibilities with the factory supercharger are cool, but the price tag will most likely be out of control as you said.

I believe I've read that the MSRP is going to be a little over 100k, like 104,000.

And by the way Bob, this car would clobber a Ford GT. The C6 Z06 was a pretty even match though.

Oh, it may beat the pants off of a Ford GT. But riddle me this, would you rather have a fast ZR1 that looks similar to every other of the 5 bazillion Vettes on the road, or a "slow" Ford GT that doesn't look like ANYTHING else on the road??? I think you know my answer:D

What I don't get is the clear plastic shield that lets me see the plastic engine shield?
Please, put some funtional cowl hood, or shaker, vents...anything but the see through plate...that's cool on a mid/rear engine car. Not here.

Otherwise, it's the hawtness.

My guess, at a quoted 595 ft'lbs of torque, you are probably looking at only 8 lbs....

The see thru hood is ridiculously cheezy. It's dumb enough they can only make the engine look good by throwing a big plastic cover over it. But then to show off the big plastic cover? Makes zero sense. Seems like something a riced out Civic would have.

And the interior is pretty blah for what this car is going to cost. Typical boring monotone dash. I think the dash in my Monte looks nicer.

The vette's interior fits right in with today euro-styled interiors... Big deal if it dont have an flashy bling, its all buisness. What do you want from a factory race car? Also i'm glad 2 of the big 3 left porno red interiors in the dust back in the mid 90's as well!

the clear piece on the hood looks out of place and I have to agree that even for a factory-built racer like this guy it should have a cooler interior. SH1t, leave the GM seat out of it and throw full tilt Recaros in it like these:

I don't get the comments on the interior. If you've been in a C6 the build quality is nice and everything feels good. It's definitely the nicest domestic interior I've been in. It's a Corvette so everything is about business and function over form.

The C6 Z06 I drove felt great inside. The seat leather was nice, the steering wheel felt awesome, and the all the switchgear felt nice and solid too. It was surprisingly quiet inside too, not a lot of road noise.

I am just saying it was a Neon, with a manual, FWD, and had torque steer like no other. I would rather drive a 9 second RWD car than an 11 second FWD car. Driving the Neon was a challenge, even for me, and I think I am an above average driver. I was just answering his question if fast cars scare me, because trust me, they don't.

So your going to compare the acceleration or lack there of, of a 11.5sec FWD car on the street. A car that get zero traction on the street and smokes the tires is scary? Just cause the speedo says 120mph and your banging gear doesn't mean the cars going that fast. FWD performance feels nothing like RWD. I had a 12.5sec FWD grand prix, all that car did was spin the tires, My vette is stock form was a more scary ride.

I dont think you can compare the power/feel/control/speed factor when talking FWD vs RWD..

IMO

Oh, it got plenty of traction, and not just on the track. I would race anyone from a dig, it wasn't a ricer roll wonder like most FWD cars. FYI- the speedo on the Neon went to 160 and it was buried on 4 occasions. Over 160 in a Neon? That's scary, lol.

And you can't compare RWD to FWD, that's what I am saying. To pilot a manual FWD car to a mid 11 takes SKILL.

And yeah Tom, it was a FUBAR platform, you won't get an arguement there. But, that's kinda why I did it. Killing a Z06 from a roll(I know, I know, it didn't happen), or keeping up with a 750GSXR from a roll (again, in my imagination) in a Neon was just priceless. Well, actually it was pretty pricey, but you get the idea:goof

hmmmm fwd spinning let off the gas and your going straight again. rwd going sideays let off the gas you still have to recover or hope it doesnt hook back up when you arent expecting it. yea id say rwd would be scary with alot of power. like toms car that thing doesnt hook anywhere and can get sideways at 75 im sure if not at a higher speed. fwd is more predictable imo.

Yep FWD make fine winter cars, thats it. For me its not as frustrating being able to bake the tires at any given speed. That monte pisses me off more.

I'd think that while the torque steer on a FWD would be disconcerting, I'd think it's in no way comperable to a RWD potentially getting sideways REAL quick....sadly one of our members found this out at the track recently :(

Granted, my fastest FWD was a low 14 second/high 90's car, it was much much harder keeping directional control of the skinny tired valiant.

In a stock Focus, yeah. Try making serious power with a turbo FWD car and see which one is easier to manage. Take it from someone who's had squirrely ass RWD cars AND a high HP FWD turbo car, I would take the RWD car any day for predictability.

Thats my point exactly, MY FWD was the same way. Torque steer takes the car left. What do you do, let of the gas and continue on your way. Thats at 50mph. Try just letting of the gas in a RWD with the ass end sideways at 50mph.

you really have to worry about the ass end going all the way around in a fwd car lol. bob not trying to talk shit about fwd ive driven a couple fwd turbo cars and they hang with my car pretty well comparing the two rwd is harder to drive. my car at 45 goes sideways, point being when i raced windsors 03 cobra i almost hit his back end granted his back end was going sideways toward mine. fwd i would have just feathered the gas and what do you know its going perfectly straight.

WickedSix
12-20-2007, 05:22 PM
I understand what u mean.... drive tires can only produce a driving force in the direction they are pointed....in the case of a rwd that is loose you blip the gas and the car pushes against the turned from tires.....in a fwd car that is loose you blip the gas and the car tends back toward the intended direction of travel because the driving wheels are producing a force in that direction.

If Joel (05orangeblast) will let any of you drive his car, or even be a passenger, do it. Then come back here and report what you think. And the bigger the turbo the worse it is, it comes on later in the RPM band, and just keeps pulling until redline. I mean my car with the DBB 50 trim on it was pretty control-able, the GT35R, yeah, not so much. When 4200 RPMS came, you were just holding on and praying the car went where you had it pointed. And that was WITH mad traction mods.

Like I said, I really don't expect people to understand, because 90% of high HP FWD cars are either A. Dyno Queens or B. Roll Race Wonders Like I said take a ride/drive Joels car when it's done:devil

And the 99-04 body styles had the shifter WAY to far forward, they fixed it with my body style though. Hows the shifter on the 03 and up Fbodies?

And the 99-04 body styles had the shifter WAY to far forward, they fixed it with my body style though. Hows the shifter on the 03 and up Fbodies?

And you're right, you would think that as much as I played with GI Joe toys as a kid I would simply love the Vette interior, as Hasbro designed them both.

Not sure if your kidding on the 03+ F body thing??... But 94-04 moo's, the shifter aint even in the same zip code as the driver yes. The 05+ shifter, feels worse than a 04+ 6 speed GTO, kinda like a bus in outerspace.

To side with Yoo a bit, at least they vette's dash doesnt look like black shoe boxe's stapled together with a few over sized holes in it:rolf But it does fit fords on going quirky interiors persona to a T. They rocked the shit out of porno red interiors in the 80's too, wonder if beagles topaz has the porno red?? They are starting to feel the need to bring back the "lego block" style interiors like in the fox's too hhaha

Yes, I was making a joke about the Maro/Bird going out of production. And red interiors were big on Cutlass's wayyyyyyy back. I remember my mom having a 442, white, with a red interior. I actually liked that car. I was only 5 and stupid though, that would explain the liking of something out of GM:rolf

JK, I would drive a GN in a heartbeat, loved that body style!!!

People don't buy Vettes for the interior.

People don't buy Mustangs for their light weight and agile handling..

And then, there's Dodge, for those folks that can overlook ALL of the above qualities. :thumbsup

I actually think the new Mustang interiors are really nice. Granted, I put on a brushed aluminum trim kit on mine, but even stock I think they are nice. Nicer than Vettes, that's for sure.

you are kidding me. You HAVE to be. the gaps in the panels/material are so big, I can use them to hold my cigars if I wanted. Not to mention the complete and utter lack of torque they have. Christ all those test drives in 05+ Mustangs we took before we got ours, the only way I would realize I was in a v6 v.s. the v8 was due to the different noise, and that the speedo moves a bit faster. You could drive it balls out from a dig and you wouldn't even wake up grandma asleep in the passenger seat.

I like it!

I can only dream of a 2008 blown push rod Ford motor.

Roll Race Wonders Like I said take a ride/drive Joels car when it's done:devil

i've never been in Joel's SRT-4, but i've seen him do some wicked pulls on the freeway....i had a hard time following him down to the east side in a big ass Chevy Avalanche.

And ditch the ZR1 name, that overpriced turd was an embarresment!

Are you retarded?

What other car in that time frame had all aluminum, hand built, 4 cam, 32 valve engines?

What other car in that time frame had numbers anywhere near what the ZR-1 put down.
