I'm looking to pick up a Dodge Charger in spring 08..I will be looking to buy a used one 06 model year in the color silver...I was wondering about what model would be better for the money? I know the R / T's are cheaper to buy but, the SRT8's sure look inviting ! I already checked with my insurance and they are fairly close in price so that will not be a issue...I wanted to see what you guys thought...I have driven a 2006 R / T already and have found the power to be plenty so paying about 5 -6 grand more for a SRT 8 is something I will need a little convincing on....

Any comments will help me decide.....THANKS......

SRT's are sexy. No question about it.

I agree, I was just wondering if the extra money for the SRT 8 was worth it since I was pleased with the power the R / T has with the smaller Hemi in it....I know the SRT 8 gives you some pretty cool stuff besides the extra power.....

Yep, I REALLY like those CHARGERS.....I can say with 100 % honesty that it's the ONLY car made in the last few years I would REALLY want....There is something bout a newer Charger that just looks bad azz to me.....

I really just love the cars....I will use it as a DD except in winter months when the Crown Vic will pull DD duty....It's even rare for me to drive the Excursion any more except to pull the trailer....Wanna keep the CHARGER and the EXCURSION nice for as long as possible....I don't care what the Crown Vic has to go through....

I'd say go for the SRT-8, just from a resale value standpoint. But besides resale, they're just a more bad-assed vehicle. :thumbsup

Why not try something just a bit different? Chrysler 300 SRT-8. As much as I like my Cobra, if I could have found a 300 SRT-8 for around the same kind of money, I would have bought it in a second. There's just something about the way that car looks...

Anyhow, for the choices listed, I picked the SRT-8.

Well, notta single vote for the R / T so far...all SRT 8 votes....

I do like the SRT 8 better I was just asking you guys to see if you thought he SRT 8 was worth the extra money over the R / T.....I drove a 06 Daytona Charger with the smaller HEMI and it was more than enough power for a DD....I do like the more aggresive look and added performance of the SRT 8 though....I will post some pics when I get one....THX.....

my mom has an 05 magnum r/t and its been a great car so far. the only problem it had was a code for the coolant temp sensor or something, which was covered under warrenty. otherwise, just put tires on it and go. as far as performance, the 6.1 is WAY more stout than the 85 rated horsepower differance, probably a full 1.0-1.5 second differance. its very comfy, especially on long trips, rides very nice, and handles awesome for a big car. the srt package will handle alot better though. the only thing i hate about it is the car is horrible in snow. either way you'll be pleased, but in my opinion, go for the srt!!!

Yea, that is what I was thinking when HITMAN said I should try something a " little different ".....I'm being really honest when i say the newer Chargers are the only cars I really like enough to buy right now....

I would go with the SRT8, I know a dealer that is going to give me list price and no mark up on a 09 Challenger SRT8 with a six speed. So next week I'm going to be taking a trip since my cobra will be paided off in June.

With the srt, not only will you get significantly more power...but much more capability all around. Roadholding, braking, handling all improve at least a step above the fairly capable R/T's. The car sounds better too.

If it's something where you plan on winter driving the vic anyways, why not splurge on the sportier variant?

I wanna find a real clean and nice one....I would be more then willing to go outta state to get the right car....I really like the silver ones....black is OK but, it's too much to keep looking nice....

SRT all day, the R/T can't even get out of it's own way. Deggy beats them.

SRT-8. Spend a little more up front, get a much nicer more powerful car, better looking car as well. Should retain a much higher resale value, making up for the initial higher cost.

I drove an R/T last week as a rental car and really liked it. I love the looks of the SRT but I think I could live without the extra power and not having to stop at every gas station I pass. I'd just go get a hood and put it on the R/T for the couple hundred bucks.

Though I have to admit I am a bit surprised Tom. I would think waiting just a bit longer and scoring a used police package Charger would be right up your alley. That's one of the options I am considering...

Id wait another year or two to buy one. From what I understand they have redesigned the charger again and the photos I have seen look better then the soon to be released challenger.

Not sure how solid my information is here but from what I saw, it looks like its gonna happen.
