Just got a T mobile dash aka MTC Excalibur for free from a friend and I was wondering how I can unlock it so I can use a provider other than T mobile. If you can help let me know, Thanks.

Usually you have to download the "operating system" to the phone, and edit the files. Instructions are in that link.

It wont work, each cell phone provider has a SPC lock code which only that provider can unlock. Although with GSM phones that might be different with the sim cards but on a CDMA network, none of the providers will share SPC unlock codes.

Correct, CDMA won't work, but it's possible to unlock any GSM phone.
