Matt

sounds good, i was waiting for you to become a member over here again, LOL!:goof

for an update:

they got anywhere from 12"-15" out of the last storm :headbang other than traffic on the trails we should have some awesome riding!! Like i said earlier, I will be up there all week so whenever you guys want to come up is cool with me, just let me know so I can expect you and try to be around. the place is super easy to find and if i am not there the door will be unlocked. go in and make yourself at home. you guys might want to bring a towel. I am hoping to have a washer and dryer set up by then, but that is not for sure. while i have towels and so forth, if you guys could try to bring one that would save me some laundry when i get home! here is the link for the google map. again, let me know when you guys are thinking about arriving and how many trucks and trailers you guys will have.

Yeah, they take forever over here to activate your member ship.

Also, I have one more friend that wants to come up as well. If you have room, can he stay there too? It looks like you do as of right now. He said he was in for sure, so let me know.

I don't know what my plans are for that week yet. I have off that whole week & plan on being up north sledding, I just don't know where yet. I am thinking about staying at Pat's Place and then possibly riding dow with Pat to Tomahawk for the weekend, then heading back up. I really don't know yet.

well it is getting close now. looks like warm weather will make its way in for this weekend and the first half of next week. hopefully they have enough base up there for the few days of warmth to not have a HUGE impact on the snow! i am leaving to go up there friday night and will spend the entire week up there. that means that i am not going to be able to get on the internet for the week unless i cruise into town with the laptop. if you guys still plan on coming up LET ME KNOW!!!

the buddy of mine that is coming may have up to 3 places left in his enclosed trailer!! he is planning on leaving Thursday night after work, around 6ish. he works at Midcities Motorsports in West Bend/Kewauskum. If you guys would be interested in throwing your sleds in their and riding up with him, again, LET ME KNOW! He will be pulling it with a diesel so 3 or 4 guys splitting fuel should be pretty cheap! PM me and I will get you in touch with him.

I posted the map in the first post and the door will be unlocked! Hoping everyone is still planning on coming up!

he might not come up anymore. he cannot find anyone to ride up with him. he got a 4 place enclosed trailer from work but only has his sled?!?! plus, with the weather, he may just say screw it.

I'm heading up Thursday night actually. But my snowmobile is in the UP yet. In the Silver City/White Pine area. I am driving up there with a friend. Will do some boonedocking up there then if they do have snow we will probably ride down to Tomahawk on Saturday. Also, we are not coming home till Monday afternoon. If you wanted to ride along or follow us up you are more than welcome to.

From talking to Eric, IF and only IF they don't have ridable/decent trails in Tomahawk we will probably be moving the ride up to White Pine, U.P. We know a Lodge owner up there that will be more than willing to accommodate us. And trust me, they have/will have more than enough snow to ride up there for sure.

Here's a couple pics from last week in the U.P:

Just out of curiousity too: Who is all still planning on going for sure? I know how these things go sometimes, everyone says they are going to go, then they bail out at the end. Like I said before: We will have snow to ride on. If there isn't snow in Tomahawk we will just head up to White Pine in the UP.
So with that being said, who's all on the list yet?

Hey 70challenger, Are you just coming up alone or are you bringing anyone along? Just wondering what we are gonig to have for people.

I talked to Eric(07ROUSHSTG3) tonight to see how things were holding up farther north. He said as of right now the trails are still rideable, but are deteriorating. You guys need to give Eric a call to let him know your plans. Right now one of the thougths is just moving the trip farther up north to the UP. We know a guy that has a Lodge in White Pine, UP that will accomadate us. They have a lot more snow up there and cooler weather. What are your thoughts on that? If you guys don't like that idea that's fine, We can ride in the Tomahawk area. Trail condition is kinda up in the air right now though.

Let me know your thoughts.

Update:

well, another day with above freezing temps, ugh. suprisingly the snow around here is giving mother nature one hell of a fight! i still have anywhere from 6-8 inches of snow in my yard, and the trail base is holding up! the local weather stations are saying that a low of 19 tonight with snow and a high around 30 tomorrow. that should start to stiffen stuff up again. snow is in the forcast tonight, thursday, and saturday. a couple inches would take the trails back to "good" in no time. just by looking at them, i would rate them a 4 out of 10 for up here. if our trails down by us were in this condition i would give them a 6 or 7. me at matt (2jzpgt) talked last night and tried to figure out a backup plan. here is what we came up with.

thursday night arrive at my place.
friday spend the day crusing around tomahawk, getting an idea of the trail condition. if the trails are bad or not what you guys want to ride on we can go farther north. white pine is about a 2 hour drive from my place, but WELL worth it. they have not gotten any rain, and their base has held up great too. they are forcasted for snow the next few days, and they are going to start grooming tonight! me and my buddy will be leaving from white pine after we are done riding saturday to come back to tomahawk. then sunday morning we would head home.

either way if you guys could call me that would be great! i am going to be coming back home thursday morning to catch a ride up with my buddy and my sled. we will arrive around 9 pm. AGAIN, PLEASE CALL ME to let me know what you guys are doing. even if you have decided not to come i need to know that.

i cannot guarantee that the trails will be great. all i can say is that i have ridden WAAAY worse. if you guys are up to taking a little cruise up Michigan, I know we can find good trails and the lodge up there is great. i have to drive into town to get on the internet, so i will probably not see any replies. my cell phone number is (920) 980-2253. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE call and let me know what you guys are thinking. with the weather you guys are having down there, i know that coming up here and seeing SOME snow would be a relief!!

another note.

guys are still driving trucks on the lakes and the dnr says that no real loss of ice has occured. that should give you a little hint of how the snow held up. the lakes are slushy for sure, but still safe. i have not seen the sun since i got here saturday.

well an update:

finally below freezing highs. teens last night hardened everything up nicely. there will be a storm coming through thursday and the local stations are saying 1-3 and 2-4. that should move the trails back into the "good" range in no time. took a little walk down the trail that runs past my house and it was very very hard. they will be slick, but should be VERY fast!! and there is no lack of cover on them.

sounds like nobody is coming up anymore. smokins sled broke and 70challenger was going to trailer with him. my buddy does have 2 spots left in his 4 place enlclosed trailer. get your machine and ass to midcities motorsports and you guys can leave right from there. if this is something that would work, ****!N CALL ME. i have been saying to call but you guys keep sending me PMs?!?!?!!? this will be the last time i am on the net for sure till monday, so, again, CALL!!

matt, me and my buddy will drive around tomahawk on friday. if the trails are so so, we will come up to pats and stay friday night. after this storm we will know how the trip on the sleds would be for you guys to come and meet us. i suggest going over to HCS and talking to octane, he usually knows the situation of the 47 railroad grade trail. i imagine that it is pretty shot, but you never know.

gotta go, have fun!

Well what a weekend! Turned out that the snowstorm missed tomahawk all together and riding there was a no-go! Me and my buddy got 5 miles from my cabin and turned back. Our slides would have not lasted very long on trails like that. the trails were completely covered, but no fresh snow made it like driving on ICE! As of Thursday at noon, the local stations were still saying 1" of snow. 1" would have made the trails awesome, but relying on the tv meteorologists is not something that i will ever do again. We headed back, loaded the sleds, and set our course for the U.P. We met up with Matt (2jzpgt) and Todd (a guy from HCS that we have ridden with a couple times) at the bar and started making a game plan for Saturday. After numerous Miller Lites we decided that we were going to make the run to Copper Harbor. We awoke around 5:30 and were on the trails by 6:00. Trails were a tad bit slick until the sun came out, but all but one of us had studs, so Matt set a pretty fast pace! Made it out to the point, took some pics, headed into town for a soda and back we went. We arrived back in White Pine 11 hours and 325 miles later! Was a long day, but well worth it. Definetly the most miles i have ever done in one day, and probably the most i will ever do until next years run! Kind of sounds like we are going to try to do this once a year, call it the Copper Run or something.

It sucks that the BCM part of the ride fizzled out, but it worked for me and Matt (2JZPGT) I guess. I think that Matt will agree when I say that this ride was not for the casual snowmobiler. We were pretty much pushing it ALL day and only stopped once for food (at 9:00 am), and once for a soda (at noon). Matt will post some pics when he gets back of some of the sites along the way!

If you guys want to try to get something together throw out some dates. January is pretty packed, but something in early February would work for me. The I will be up at my place the 3rd weekend with my family and the 4th weekend I will be in Hurley for the weekend. the first weekend in Feb. would work the best for me.

2jzpgt
01-14-2008, 05:49 PM
The trip was a great time. It's too bad the BCM guys couldn't make it. It was awsome!!!!! I put on 425 miles for the whole weekend. It's too bad that the big snow didn't start till Monday morning. When we left this morning there was 4-5" of fresh powder on the ground and they were still supposed to get 4" more.

The trails conditions were really surprisingly good. Snow cover was good.

These pics are at the tip off the Keweenaw pennisula. Awsome view!!!!!!!!
