I just polished out my buddy's 71 Goat for him. 19 hours of buff and polish time, high speed, low speed, and everything in between... Thought you guys would like to see some pics, very cool car! This is an original 71 455HO 4 speed 12 bolt GTO. The car was painted in 1985, (i think) about 30-40k miles ago. Taken all the way down to 1500 grit machine compound and brought back to life... I wish I would have taken some before pics...

Holy Hell man that does look great. I spent an entire day on my Jetta once, and that was maybe 9 hours of buffing and I was dead.

Perseverance always wins

Thanks for the compliments! I didn't think to take any before pics, but the paint was extremely "hazey" and swirled. I ended up having to use pre-kleano to strip off all the old wax. Yea, a lot of time behind a high speed Milwaukee buffer will help ya build your arm strength a bit :) I did spread that over a couple of days, but it was a minimum of 8 hours a day grinding on the paint. All in all, the owner was ecstatic when he picked the car up, and left me a nice tip :banana

P.S. I didn't post this as a solicitation, but I do polish cars few extra bucks, but it's not a $50 detail job ;) If anyone is interested, just PM me or email for details. It's more of a hobby than anything. I've been able to get up close and personal to some really rare cars. I've done a few Bloomington Gold Corvettes, buncha 1st gen F-bodys, a couple GNX's, a SD455 TA, LS6 chevelle, 1933 Packard Sedan, Auburn speedster, GS 455's, and a few GN's ;)

How bad is it? What type of paint? If its just oxidized and still has some paint to work with, it's very possible. Some paint is just dead and there's no coming back. I can usually tell by trying a panel and seeing what happens. Swing it on by and I'll give it a shot. By the way, 500 is about the going rate for an older paintjob that needs a lot of attention. $35 an hr. plus materials cost is what I charge. Some newer finishes can be completed in a fraction of that time. It comes out to about half of a good bodyshop. Thanks again for the compliments guys! :D

How bad is it? What type of paint? The answer to both questions is: "The worst":

Trust me...no amount of polishing would make it look as clean as the goat :goof

great work on it though :thumbsup
