OK, so the background is not the greatest, but I was just out and about and decided to try this anyways. First I will post the originals then the HDR as the last one....

Photomatrix is the software you used to merge the photos correct? Looks great, what settings did you change to achive the 3 different shots just the shutter or what? Also can you merge them in CS2?

Thanks!!

Basically, go into P mode on your rebel, and use the wheel by the shutter button to change the exposure. Image 1 is at -2 image 2 is at 0 and image 3 is at +2. Then use photomatix to merge, and then go into tone mapping and mess with everything till you get the desired result.

I'm gonna play around tonight some more and see what I can come up with and post them up here.....

Stay tuned....:banana

You could merge them in CS2.
Have all 3 images open... say pic1 pic2 pic3.
Whatever pic you want to start with, make sure it's window has the focus.

Click on Image... then Apply Image.
From the source box, select pic2... then ok.
From the source box, select pic3... then ok.

Using the Multiply setting as default should work the best, but you can get some really interesting shtuff by choosing the other settings.

Photoshop CS2 and CS3 you can go to the File Menu -> Automate ->Merge to HDR.

I've used that and Photomatix, and prefer Photomatix's results (http://brewcitymuscle.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16837).

Johnny, good first attempt, keep playing with it and you'll get what you want. HDR is fun stuff.

Great looking car too :thumbsup

Awesome, I def want to give this a try.

How do you go about getting the foreground and the background in focus? All 3 shots need to be taken from the exact same spot, so how do you change focus?

johnny--2k
08-01-2007, 12:28 AM
I never changed focus. I set the camera on the tripod, set the timer mode, focused, and I actually used 5 images for all of the night ones.

-2
-1
0
+1
+2

Just start at minus 2, take the pic, adjust to -1 take the pic, and so on. Then merged and after a bit of tone mapping and resizing, viola!

Let me know if you want to go out and try sometime. I'd be more than happy to help and take some more myself!

Sounds like a plan to me, sure. I'd love to get some of the bike.

And I know you didn't change focus, but is it possible? I thought I saw it somewhere where the foreground AND the background was in focus and it gave the photo an AWESOME 3D appearance.

haha.....OK, we gotta set up a time when we meet somewhere, then head out for pictures. These were taken around 8:30 8:45 last night, that's about great timing with the sunset.....

I won't be free tonight, but maybe later this week.

Let me know, I'm down for whatever!

That's damn impressive for no tripod... you should be a surgeon :]

I tried it w/o a tripod as well, it was like "HDR - through the eyes of a drunk"

That 3000GT is amazing, and it would have been even more so with a tripod. It has an almost surreal look, almost more like a painting than a photo.

Can someone PLEASE take a pic of my car like that? :)
