* Those caught not obeying the rules will be escorted out with NO REFUND

* Off Track excursions -- If any vehicle has all four wheels off the track for any reason other than mechanical failure during the entire weekend, these rules apply:
1. First time -- vehicle is checked out and that current session is done, driver is then sent to the paddock

2. Second time -- vehicle is checked out and the day is done, but can return on the next day/event. If done on Saturday, Sunday will start out with only one time left.

3. Third time -- vehicle is sent back to the paddock and numbers removed for the rest of the event for that day and will on probation for 13 months.
* Spin outs -- If a vehicle spins out of control for more than 90*
1. First time -- The vehicle will be brought to tech and will be inspected and make sure the driver/car is ok to go back onto the track.
2. Second time -- The vehicle is brought to tech and will be inspected to make sure the driver/car is ok to go back onto the track in the next session. The vehicle will then proceed to the paddock for the rest of the remaining session.

2. Remove helmet on the track without permission
* Car-to-Car Contact -- "Collisions are governed by the 13/13 rule, which states that if you are involved in an incident sufficient to cause damage to your car or any other car, you may be prohibited from participating for the rest of the weekend, prohibited from entering the next event, and placed on probation for 13 months. If you are involved in another such incident during your probation, you will be suspended for 13 months. Keep in mind that when on the track you are responsible for your own behavior, which includes your failure to avoid incidents. If another driver is being reckless, it would be wise to give that person wide berth, and to let us know about it in the hopes that we can prevent an incident from occurring. Incidents at this type of event are very rare, but it is only with your help that we can keep them so."

* Probation -- The participant begins the event with the First time offense revoked and will continue on to the Second and Third time of off track excursions. If participant fails to obey the rules when on probation, participant will then not be allowed to attend another MFBA Road America Event for 13 months.

Safety is our main concern

Rating Yourself

This will determine what session you will most likely be in. Try to place yourself accordingly.

Group A “Assertive” Class
These drivers are seasoned and drive other tracks and events. Drivers are capable of driving aggressively in a safe manner. Drivers are very comfortable passing and being passed within the set passing zones.

Group B “Advanced” Class
Drivers have driven Road America and other tracks and events, and may drive more conservatively than the "Assertive" Class. Drivers are comfortable passing and being passed.

Group C “Intermediate” Class
Drivers have limited track time and drives conservatively. Passing may be limited in the class due to experience and comfort levels.

Group D “Novice” Class
Driver has little or no track experience and will drive very conservatively in this group. Very little passing expected.

Notes:
1. All classes must observe the same passing/ no passing zone markers and proper passing procedures.
2. Cars with street tires and completely stock brakes are recommended to be placed in the C & D groups.

Questions regarding grouping, please E-mail us at: roadamerica@fbody.us

What kind of tires are required?

Kinda lost by this question? There isn't any kind of regulations on the car or its parts. Just the safety stuff... one example being the battery secured or working taillights.

"Appropriate tires - good condition for track environment"

I understand the good condition part obviously, but it made it sound like there is some type of tire requirement.

No official tire requirement just make sure there are no nails & etc in them and sidewalls arent chewed up- always catch some in tech. Old & harder tires may be more slippery in turns, so newer tires are are plus :thumbsup
Some get tires & rims just for events like these and run 'R' compound tires which are much stickier than normal steeet tires.

Just start out on street tires imo. Starting with r comps will mask bad driving habits and a street tire will usually gradually lose traction where many r comps are all or nothing.

Don't forget to run track pads at least up front and some fresh fluid!

SSmike1

YES
it is best to start on Plain old Street tires.

1. they make noise when approaching the traction limit = GOOD for Beginners!

2. they are hard and do not wear out as fast, much cheaper option!

street tires are OK at this event!
you will be grouped with other beginners and/or with Street tires.

also, great advice on the Brakes!

PUT a Track Compound high performance brake pad in
for anytime you are going onto a race track!
Just the FRONT PADS!!!!!!! the back pads are hardly used.
and FLUSH THE BRAKE FLUID with fresh fluid!!!!!!!!

Brake Pad Fade, on a race track is not good!

Mike that's a killer story!! I haven't got a chance to ride in a new Z06 yet but I'll bet that big LS7 is quite a difference over the original LS1! You're a lucky guy...

If all goes well I might be racing RA this fall in my truck again, faster than ever! In fact I'm a little nervous about too much speed on the straights, do you think I should consider changing from the XP10s? Last time I ran turned-down rotors (which was a mistake I won't repeat) and they cracked really badly. I'm afraid of it happening again, even though I plan to use virgin Carbotech blanks.

i'll be running a good street pad with some drilled rotors... so i hope it slows my slow car down enough ;)

08-08-2007, 11:10 PM
Don't do it. Any street pad will be inadequate IMO. Spend the $200 and get a REAL race pad, you'll be very glad you did!! www.ctbrakes.com

Here's what my brand new "high performance Z rated street pad" looked like after ONE day of Road America:

http://www.nconnect.net/~tookycat/syclone/fried_pad1.jpg

http://www.nconnect.net/~tookycat/syclone/bent_pad1.jpg

Dangerous.... Needless to say I upgraded the brakes and switched to race pads before I returned to Road America.

Um ya what josh said.

Street pad = LOW brake fade temp
Drilled rotors = Heat+drilled = crackola

Wish I still had that pic of the porche rotors from RA last time.

This Vette only made it a session or 2 if I recall in spring before the rotor broke.
I'd personally never get drilled rotors.

There are some pads that can be dual purpose for lighter cars. I have used ebc reds at ra and while they lack the brake torque of a real race pad, they did stop the car everytime.
