I was cruising around on Ebay today and was suprised to come upon Garrett Parker's EVO up for sale on EBAY:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-AMS-Built-Mitsubishi-EVO-VIII-880awhp-drag-car_W0QQitemZ200131715793QQihZ010QQcategoryZ98062Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

$40K starting bid for a car I know has well over $130K in it.

This is an easy 9 second car, and he has ALOT of slips showing 10's -- just needs a better driver. I have raced against this car several times over the years, and can vouch for the list of mods currently done.

I don't know why he is selling it; but more than likely Garrett got sick of it, or Steve (his dad) is sick of paying for the expensive hobby.

UPDATE::
Steve is selling Garrett's car to finance the startup of his son doing AMA racing. Garrett got his AMA license and wants to do bike racing instead.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The car has all the best stuff on it, and is definitely worth $40K.

Check it out!

The GT42R kit is a GT4202R setup. On spray, this car has supposedly recorded over 1000WHP -- I don't doubt it.

If you don't like the green; I think he has six different sets of rims and tires for the car to choose from.

He also has like 5 extra transmissions, transfer cases, and spare parts up the wazoo.

This is a fast ass evo, and it is the fastest in the state of Wisconsin.

Looks neat, the cage could have been powder coated or at least painted.....
All that and just in the 10's, looks like it needs the "driver mod"

I dunno, it DOES have a chute !:stare

Also, the interior is very sparse.... So it must be fast.

While I give the car plenty of respect I echo other member's doubts of it being the fastest car in the area. Also, for $130k I would rather build a 8-second 'something else' to go to strip with. I like the AWD cars as much as most but to me if you want to get really serious about the 1/4 mile go with something that's meant for the strip. Those kind of cars are awesome for road america and so forth but the way there set up it not the best.....

And BTW, I know he has other wheels but what's up with the aqua-green...??? :wooo :goof

For 130k I sure hope one could build a good DRAG car, an EVO would not be my 1st choice. But diffrent folks = diffrent strokes. I would agree that given BCM's 1/4 mile list, a low 10sec/high 9sec car is NOT the fastest around. But still damn fast.

$130K? You can buy a decent home for that much. I can't believe someone would dump that much money into a car especially with green rims...urk!

Yeah, and there's a reason he has all those spare parts, and I am guessing it's because it breaks all the time. AWD with that much horse just HAS to be expensive to maintain!!

For less than 30k you could get an 03 Cobra and be running 9's and have a nice daily driver too.

Well, it is white with carbon hood/hatch, and painted evo rims.

I think you can change rims or a color pretty darn easy, and last time I checked, tint was pretty darn cheap.

130K for 10's is insane. I would do a 911 turbo with a few mods and have twice the resale and just as fast of a car.

130k to go 9's. I've got a friend selling a 7 second firebird for the same price as this drag car (seriously) and at that price it comes with a fresh spare motor:D Different strokes - I'm not gonna talk too much as Timmay can wipe the floor with me right now!

Finally looked at the link, Still laughing at the unpainted roll cage, the dyna mat in the trunk, but lack of rear seats. How bout take the dyamat out and put the rear seats back in. probably about the same weight give or take 5lbs.

Buy a used '01 911 Turbo (like my dad's old one) for say... 80k (what my dad's sold for with 20k of Autothority parts on it) and invest less than that and have just as fast of a car that looks cooler for less money... Makes sence to me...

The resale value of a 911 Turbo (new to used) is horrible, you'd loose about 40k in your first 3 years of ownership...

But hey, he must like that car to invest that money so best of luck to him with the sale... :thumbsup

Lingenfelter is a phucking hack.
That would be mistake #2.

Mistake #1 was pouring $130k into an Evo... good god.

Yea 9's is impressive, but if your goal is to run with single digit cars, that was not the platform to do it with. :confused

If he has the money to throw at it and that is what he wants to do, who cares. Sure he could have built an all out drag car that goes faster, but this car is actually streetable. With a good driver it can run low 9s I would bet. This car was built by the best Evo company in the country so of course the labor was not cheap and it was built with the best of the best parts. $40K is a steal in my opinion on a car that is built as much as this one. To each his own though, but some of you guys that are getting caught up on wheels which are a $2000 or less fix are rediculous.

Not that bad??? So car cost 20k. That is 110,000 invested. If it were my dad I would have had him put that money into a house. At least you can see a return on it then, and have something to show for it. Hell, paint racing stripes on it if you want.

trust me, they have A LOT of money. ive been to his house before!

HUGE HUGE HUGE house.

dad owns a construction company, mom is a lawyer

he had one of the first evo;s in the state ( dad bought it for him before he was even legal to drive )

so 03, evos were 35k with market up, so thats ROUGHLY 90k in the car. lots of money yes, but hes also forgetting that is the 4th motor I believe, couple t-cases, trannys, rims ( kid has like 6 sets ), tires etc....

lol.true i woulda perfered a house as well i was just saying at todays price of an evo is 20K i believe evo's in 03 were 35K i know there isn't that much in parts but i'm pretty sure AMS's labor of $100+ per hour sure put a big number on that price.

twicks69
07-26-2007, 12:59 PM
I don't doubt it, because I have seen everything done to the car, and I know how much AMS charges, and I know Steve Parker.

That car has AT LEAST $5000 ($225.00/hr tuning) spent on tuning over the last two seasons, and I would guess at well over $25K in labor, it has a $4000+ clutch in it, a $10K+ motor/head, a $5K transmission, a $4K transfer case, another $4K in driveshaft and axles, a $1300 intake manifold, an $8K turbo setup, a $1400 fuel system, a $2K coilover system, another $3K in safety equipment, a $2K standalone setup, a $2K intercooler setup, etc.

This isn't some shitbox -- it DOES have the best stuff on it. Maybe it needs a little TLC, but that is the buyer's problem.

I know that it doesn't mean crap to the buyer, but I didn't post it on here to start up a riled up shitstorm of rice haters.

I am just saying if you want a fast evo, here is one.

Love it or hate it, it will wipe the floor with nearly everyone on this forum save for about 20 people. If you want to make a fast domestic, fine...you can easily make a fast domestic for $40K. Just remember that this is a little 4-banger and is producing around 8-9 HP per cubic inch on boost alone. Last time I checked, that was PRETTY DAMN IMPRESSIVE to say the least. There are only a few other imports in this state with that kind of power (Jake's Talon and Tri's Supra) -- and they both have larger turbos than Garrett's evo.

It is for sale; I know the people who own it, and thought it would be interesting to give people the heads up if they wanted a fast one, without spending a crapload of THEIR OWN money to reproduce the power made by this one.

If you guys are crying about the ugly rims, the carbon hood/trunk, or the dynamat interior, or the unpainted roll cage...that is all EASY things to fix on your own.

Either way $40K is worth it.
