I've seen a couple guys around town here on the road riding dirt bikes.

What's cool is that they're 2 stroke machines, and running sportbike tires.

Being an old dirt bike guy, I think this might be something I'd like to try.

That being said, I'm not gonna go and get an enduro. What I'm wondering is if anyone knows the steps involved in converting something like a YZ125/250 into a street legal bike.

Is it as easy as adding lights and going? What about registration and plates?

Anyone know anything about this?

they make complete conversion kits for dirt bike both 2 and 4 stroke. I think breecher hit it pretty good. Biggest difference is the stator assembly.....gotta power alot more when the lights are there :thumbsup

OK, so that's covered.

What about legalities? Like getting a plate and registration? I know some states won't allow the dual-sport conversion, is WI one of them?

I've seen two on the road here with plates and everything a cr500 and a kx250 but they were both 90's models. I dunno if there is a cutoff...I know alot of states don't allow the conversion on two strokes cus of the pollution factor.

Your thinking of a super motard bike if it has street tires on it:

What is the difference, really?

From a non-motorcycle rider perspective, I simply see lightweight-looking bikes with long suspension travel.

Then again, I think the dual purpose one does look better.

Thats what I'm looking to do - the Super Motard bike. I'd like to do a 2-stroke.

ANy more info would be awesome.

The Motard bike is 100% street, where the DP bike is like 70% street 30% dirt.

The lean angle you can do on a Motard is insane.

:confused I thought super moto bikes raced over a dual media track though?

Essentially I would just be using it for commuting.

I want something different from the Gixxer/CBR crowd, yet familiar to me.

I still have yet to come across any info as far as the legal issues involved here in WI.

They do. Looks like the one above is set up for total street though, judging by the tire choice.

How does a supermoto bike ride relative to a small engined cruiser/sport bike.

The guy who gave me the kawasaki ninja has a motard.
