What would you consider to be getting into higher mileage for a full size 2002-2004 5.3l chevy truck in the $16-$20k range? I know it really depends on how well it was taken care of....but at what point do you tell yourself "thats too high"?

:D

I'm wierd. decent vehicles don't worry my till I hit 200. But for and 03-04, 75k is about all I would honestly want.

The nice thing about late model high mileage vehicles is you know where they got the miles from and thats out on the highway. I would rather have 150k highway than 75k city anyday.

now a days, miles are miles. if it was maintained well, go for it. you can always tell when something has been abused or has had a nice cushy life, even if it does have some turns racked up on the odometer

I personally wouldnt never buy a used truck..... BUT..........i think for said price. 50K is about the cutoff. I cant see a 50K mile gasser being worth 20K. You can buy a brand new 4x4 1/2 ton for 25K all day long...... I think 50K miles and $15-17K is the magic numbers........

hey tony (breecher), aside from that brand new truck being a short box regular cab stick shift with a 4.8, does that 25k get you doors with the truck, or is that an option? is that a straight 25k or is that 25k and a kilo of crack?

I can't find an '07 extended cab 5.3L 4x4 for under $27,600...and thats with just the bare bones 1WT package....not even a CD player, cruise control, power windowns and locks, or even a tow package. For just that stuff you're pushing $30k.

Mike,

I paid 25,900 for my 05 Dodge ram crew cab SLT 4x4 BRAND NEW. If you are the ultimate jew, there are deals to be had. Especially if you hit the market when manufactuerers are offering killer rebates. When I bought that ram dodge had 10K in rebates on there trucks. You just have to wait till the good deals roll around. Now when we bought the Max, rebates wernt that great and even with a employee discount we still paid 32K for the truck. Timing is everything. Besides, unless you were b.s.ing me, you told me you only paid 25 for your truck when i came over to do the torsion job on it. Care to come clean?

I'll have to look into buying new....as much as I dont want to. If the payment is gonna be the same...why not.

I would cut it off at about 60k for an 05 and I would still have someone look it over who had absolutly no interest in it...somtimes the vehicles that are that new with low mileage can be junk too.

Your best bet might be getting a truck that was a demo or a program car....new car, but not with the new vehicle price.

Dodge is the only auto manufacturer out there that has to offer 10k in rebates just because they cant move vehicles off of their lot.

And yeah, I paid 25k for my truck, but it wasnt brand new with 0 miles. It had 6,495 miles at signing. Was classified as executive use in Michigan. One of GM's bigwigs got to drive it around for a little while. I was totally comfortable with the deal.

Cant move them off the lot? Thats funny considering my Max, one of your precious fully loaded chevy's sat on Heisers lot for OVER a year. Dodge moves there trucks just fine..... There cheaper to start out with as well. Ive had this argument before, chevy is overpriced.......

Can't be moving them too well to need big "$10000 off" signs at whatever dodge dealer has a lot nest to 894. :rolf

chevy may be overpriced, and it doesnt bother me at all because in my opinion, regardless of what yours, or the rest of the worlds opinion is, they are superior trucks. so if they are more money, so be it, ya get what ya pay for. My truck is at 27,500 miles right now. How many problems to date: 0!!!!

Back to your regularly scheduled topic :D

I would say around 50k. But it varies so much. I have access to the Manheim Auto Auction site if you would like to see what they go for at the auctions. I paid 6k for my 2000 Silverado Reg cab sb with the 5.3 in it with 132k on it. It was more than book value but they were selling for that at the auctions and I knew the owner of the truck. I never had any trouble with it and just sold it to a friend with 148k on the clock. All I did was change the oil, u joints(since it was lowered) and the belts. I love chevy's especially the 5.3's they seem to run forever until you start modding them alot.

I can probably get you something from GA to. My friend has a dealership down there. I can get cars for $1k over what he pays for them.
