I swear that site is down at least twice a day. I dont care how big it is, it shouldn't be down all the time with the amount of money they generate its pathetic. I especially hate when mods b!tch about using the search function but 80% of the time its down!!!! shame there are no other really good LSX sites out there that can compete with them.rant over:(

I hear ya! Seems like its has been getting worse lately. You are exactly right about the search too. It pretty bad when you have to say in every post that "yes I have tried a search" or everyone jumps on you. I would think that everyone on there would know by know that the search NEVER WORK!!!!

By the way it is working for me.

dump the sponsor section if it means keeping the board running smoothly! I remember when they were falling out with ls1.com and they kept bitching about not dumping AAG if it meant keeping the board up. whats their malfunction now? finally started working for me again after 15 minutes.

I think I have read that they still have all of the posts "archived" since the site began. That is a lot of info to keep stored up. They must have a big room with a lot of hard drives in it.

I completely agree with you guys. I love it because Tony always complained about LS1.com not being fast enough and such, now LS1Tech.com is without a doubt the slowest and most messed up forum I have ever been a part of.
The people there are dicks too. Not the members really but the people that run the site, they think they're better than everyone.
Have you guys ever added up how much money they make off the site? Last time I checked and talked to some of their sponsers they charge $175 a month for LS1Tech and for PerformanceTrucks. For LS1Tech by itself they make over $20,000 a month!!! I talked to their server admin a couple months ago and found out the hosting bill is $1200 a month so they are making about $18,000.00 a month off LS1Tech and that's not even the including PerformanceTrucks site. It is a buisness so maybe they should put some of the money back into it so it runs smoothly. I mean CorvetteForum.com is four times as big and never has any problems.

as a sponsor I would be PISSED to always have the site down but it must be working for them. I will admit, its is very easy to navigate their sponsor list and because of it I continue to use them. Hell I log onto LS1tech just to get the sponsor listing rather than searching the net for them.

I am highly doubting they have more than one server.

Seems like they have a shitty host thats all. I will have to investigate that matter.

There are pissed sponsers, at different open houses, dyno days, etc... I have talked to different people that sponser the site and they really don't like them. They say Tony and John are always asking for handouts as well. For the Camaro they're using for the Pinks show they asked who could give them stuff. Some of the shops offered some great discounts but the way a certian sponser put it, he said they want the stuff free and then cash just because they are nice enough to use our products.
Personally I just think it's getting out of hand, but that's just me.

I do agree with their sponsor listing being easy to navigate. I do the same thing, instead of searching on Google for a shop I'll just pull it off their site.

Don't hold me to it but I believe they said they have three.
I believe CorvetteForum.com has five.

Again don't hold me to it but I remember them saying that last year.

It's pretty annoying how you can't mention any business that isn't a sponsor. That limits a large portion of the auto market. I can understand limiting the actual business from posting, but a consumer mentioning the company should be permitted.

As a moderator of that site, I hear all the bitching all the time.

The search has always been a problem. They got it fixed now for the most part, just working the bugs out of it. Have you guys seen HOW to do a search? With the forum ID or user ID and words you are searching for?

Part of the problem is the amount of users actually ON the site.

They own the site, they can charge what they want. Are you KIDDING me that some of those sponsors are complaining about paying $175 a month for a site that I bet brings in $10,000 a month for some of the larger shops BARE minimum. I know I used to talk with Jon from Speed Inc VERY often and about how much business they do per day. If it wasn't for those sites, Tom's shop wouldnt be as big as it turned out to be.

There are 4 servers. The guy who does the admin stuff, does it in his free time.

making payments on a server isn't a big deal. we spend the 25K in one year just renting them. But, it sure would suck to make that investment and this stuff not work like it should. Plus, the host has been good about service calls and maintenance issues.

I think we should auto-archive any posts older than 2 yrs, keep them searchable but not reply-able. Then, prune the classifieds and regional forums at 6 months.

SO just for your information, they have been working and fixing stuff for a long time, but like I said, it's done on a part time basis.

Who acts like they are better? I'd be curious to hear that.

For the Corvetteforum stuff, there's a reason why. One is that they don't nearly have as much search content as LS1tech and don't have the traffic. Second is:

Corvetteforum does something very novel, but kind of annoying. They split up their website into smaller "subsites." Every few forums are actually a compartmentalized installation of vBulletin. This makes search MUCH faster and easier, but its somewhat strange to navigate on the surface. I like their idea though, because for a large forum it WORKS!

Some more info....

The real issue is the way vBulletin is written. It stuffs everything on the entire site into two tables -- thread and post. Thread holds the thread info -- title, who created, last updated, etc. The Post table holds ALL the posts everyone has ever made. It is not broken up AT ALL, just one big pile of posts. Think of it this way, someone tells you to go find every 1/4" x 1/2" NC cap screw in your inventory. The problem is, you don't know where to find them -- you have to search. Your warehouse is not organized into rows, shelves, and slots. Instead, your warehouse is just a bunch of boxes stacked next to each other on the floor. That's kinda how vBulletin does it. When I speak of "indexing" I'm talking about making it a little easier to find those boxes on the floor. What you do is make a list of the location on the floor for every item in your inventory. So if you looked in your list for that cap screw, you'd get a list of 500 or 1000 or whatever locations where you can find one. Sounds good, and in theory it is -- until you realize that LS1Tech adds in the requirement to search on TWO and THREE character terms!!! You've now accomplished almost nothing, since your index is just as big as your regular database. The larger the word, the smaller the search index, and the faster the search. Most sites only index 4 character words and bigger, and throw out common "stop words" as well. This is also how the default vBulletin search works. It works absolutely GREAT -- until you add in the LS1Tech requirement to search on such things as T1, B1, cam, lq4, l76, etc.

Yet another reason is with as large as the site is, with the amount of spam traffic that comes through there(i'd say about 250 a day), deleting those accounts, banning the accounts, putting the post in the trash, blah blah blah, certainly slows the site down. Then again, you have a crap ton of people trying to keep the shit talk in every thread down to a min, and deleting posts, editing posts(i get about 15-20 post warning emails a day and that's just the Midwest section).

I personally still love the site. It has gotten slower lately and search has stopped working sometimes but it is still a much more informative site than any of the other ones. Plus all the traffic increases the odds of someone responding to a posted question. I'm sure it will improve eventually. I will agree that a few mods think they know everything and almost belittle other posters there. It hasn't happened to me but I have seen it happen. Yet it is still rare too. A majority of mods are helpful and polite. No issues personally there.

I just cant stand how long it takes to load a page and how often the search is down. Like I posted nobody else can compete with them but it doesnt make it ok to always be down. 3-5 times a almost EVERYday is alot, I dont care how big or small you are. yes, they have a ton of info and you can get a response almost immediately but that is only because of a lack of competition. we arent mods there Chris so look at it from our standpoint. I do buy from their sponsors BECAUSE of that site but dayum if it doesnt suck to surf there.
