Cute pup! Her face looks alot like my coondog.

That's kinda a vocal dog for an apartment though, isn't it? I always get the feeling that Beagles are barkers.

Yeah they can be. My friend has a Beagle/Pug mix and he never shuts up. Good thing he owns his own home.

Keep a good eye on 'em when out...those things will follow their noses until they are beyond lost, lol. And then, when they try to find their way back, they just get lost following another scent.

cute pup though....

If you train them to not be vocal they won't. The reason most beagles are vocal is because their owners like to hear them bark when they're pups and don't train them not to. At least that's what a few pet trainers told me.

Beagle... LOL I knew you'd want him as your mascot... I'll have to find a picture of him flying for that though... :rolf

I know all about these guys following their nose.. My cousin's did that... Let's just say they found him in another county... :rolf

I just hope he stays a puppy at heart... But I can't wait for him to be trained enough to not go potty in the apartment... :rolf

Hope you have a lock on your garbage can!

Beagles are the best dogs. Ever. Where did you get him from?

He don't get in the garbage cans, interestingly enough.. At least not yet... My cousin had one and he acts the same as my cousins... :rolf

Awesome dog!

Here is what I like to do so that I can watch a dog use its nose:

1: Let the dog know it is getting a treat. Mine gets all excited when I do this, but I take the dog into one room and tell him to sit and stay.

2: Out of sight from the dog, I take the treat and drag it along the floor, making a scent trail. I then place the treat in a location where it is not visible, but easy to get to (behind the leg of a chair).

3: Say "go get it," and watch my dog sniff around for it.

My dog Bentley, the maltese/mut, has a terrible nose. He needs to get within a few feet of a treat before he can home in on it. Before he homes in, it is a random search around the appartment. He does listen to me when I say yes and no, which is how he gets close. Only the stinky chewy treats leave a scent trail strong enough for him to follow.

My brother's dog (apso/bishon/westie) has a good nose. If you set him loose after the treat, he'll pick up the trail within a few seconds. He can even tell if he went the wrong way down the trail when it runs out. "Otis" will usually have the treat in 20 seconds.

My sister has a lab/basset with the best nose of all the dogs. It will enter the room and go almost strait to the treat without following the trail. It's amazing how keen those things are.
