Seems there is good, logical source for why water may have collected in the crypt. It is buried under a park or lawn. Over the years with constant watering - water was bound to collect in any open void in the ground. It wasn't so much sealed as much as closed. I don't see any flexible seal on the top of the walls.
It was a good idea...however, by the obvious evidence, the execution was less than adequet.

they should have buried it behind a brick wall in the courthouse...we ran a story about this in one of the mags I work on and I could see that coming from a mile away that it was going to be a rust pile

Idiots, I can't believe they didn't seal the thing.

Well, 50 years ago that is what they considered "sealing" it. Technology is alot different now. Look at it as if it was basement walls of a 50 year old house. Those old concrete basement walls form cracks and leak water into the basement. Pretty much the same situation.
Anyways, what do you call something that is gold, has fins and in 4 walls filled with water??? :D

"While the car was up in the air it gave people a chance to inspect the damage 50 years underwater could do. Hot rod builder Boyd Coddington from cable's “American Hot Rod” came to Tulsa to take a look. He will get a chance to clean up the car between the Friday unearthing at noon, and our live special Friday night at 7."

I'm sure Boyd can really "clean this car up" just fine in a few hours.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

A good power wash and that thing may not be that bad. Look at the front bumper, they cleaned a spot ad it still looks decent.
