No offense but that seems to be the biggest waste of time and money. I can't see anyone putting that much effort into a car actually worth something, much less that car.

I may be wrong, but it appears that they are restoring a WRC car, which would seem like it would be worth something. People do full restos on hemi cudas and 69 Z28 camaros that are in even worse shape and aren't as rare or special as a legitimate professional race car.

well at least some of the hemi cudas are worth a few million, so you can get ur money out of em. their crafsmenship was awesome but i wouldn't have done it to that car

While still worth something the real difference is people are paying RIDICULOUS amounts for Cuda's, Z28's, etc :chair:

And on top of that the Celica was easily more difficult of a full resto. Your typical resto is a N/A big block rear wheel drive, and not to mention is looks like they made most of the pieces instead of finding a good used piece and cleaning them up.....

Honestly, I have a whole new respect for 'classic' Toyotas, and yes I said 'classic Toyota'. I sort of realized something at the car show in the Dells yesterday (Sat.), and I asked myself.....what IS a classic car...???

AWESOME FIND...!!! :thumbsup

Im no import nut but finding a 1985 twin cam turbo factory
class B rally car is like finding a 1968 Smokey Yunick Trans
Am series Camaro at the scrap yard....I'd waste some money
fixxin it up too!

Check out page 274. THAT is my favorite car of the era!

The yota rocks! The old boxy rwd imports of the 70s and 80s such as the Ur Quattro, Datsun 510, BMW 2002, Toyota Celica are my ideals of a sports car.

Although a Yenko Camaro might be faster or worth more, I'm more interested in cars such as the one shown.

Edit: Ur rebuilt

seems like it's at the right shop for vintage rally cars...

Mk 2 escort, Group B Audi Quattro, WRX(ok, maybe not so vintage, but older nonetheless)

very insightful buildup...

More info:

In 1985, Finnish driver Juha Kankkunen drove a Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo to victory in the WRC Safari Rally, in his first race out, with 100-1 odds against him. The win was enough to catapult Kankkunen to the forefront of WRC by driving with Peugeot for 1986, but his old Celica was kept stored away, ravaged by the elements and twenty-two years of decaying.

Mäkelä Auto Tuning, the same company which prepped the ice-speed record Bentley Continental GT, recently set about restoring Kankkunen's winning Celica, expertly laying metal in where there was naught but Swiss cheese and painstakngly restoring everything from the rusty gauge panel to the twin-plug, 390 horsepower, dry-sump, turbocharged Toyota 4TGT engine.

Take a look at the other projects, they do some damn good work.
