I only get 17.5-18 (mostly highway) in my little 6 banger ZR-2. 3.73 rear with 31" mudders :thumbsup It's gets about 17mpg no matter what...city or hwy.

It usually goes up the warmer it gets. In winter when it was really cold I was seeing around 15-16mpg mostly highway miles. :alcoholic

22-25mpg on highway? For real? Thats 570 miles to a tank on the low end....I dont believe that. Are you just going off that B.S. on dash display? The BEST ive ever gotten to a tank was 380 miles. I dont believe my engine is making a 200 mile to a tank difference.

no bs. the dash display is pretty close with my calculations, but I rarely ever do straight freeway. driving to texas I was lucky to get BELOW 22mpg's :D

Breecher_7
05-19-2007, 07:24 PM
I dont know man, thats really out there. I AVERAGE 320 miles to a tank and that is not even 12.5 mpg. I have yet to do a straight highway tank but i know it will be under 400. I just dont see how your fuel economy can be that much better because other then my engine and the crew cab, our trucks are the same.....

my window sticker says 17mpg highway and I doubt it will EVER see that. Im starting to think they rate it at 50-55 mph, not 70-75mph even though MOST states speedlimit on the highway is 70-75 mph, but lame ass wisconsin isnt one of them.

Yeah, not really, not enough of a difference to make up for a 200 mile per tank difference. Somthing here is not right.

no sux0r on teh math :D

I run 87 (or whatever the regular/lowest grade is). I have a high flow filter, and open exhaust from the catback with a tom tune. I drive a good comination of freeway/city. With my current driving I get about 17mpg. Straight city, I get about 16mpg. Straight freeway its anywhere from 20-25mpg. When its really cold out I have seen 19/20mpg on the freeway, but with this warmer weather its up there around 22-25mpg. I know how to baby the throttle on the freeway, I draft behind semi's when there is a headwind, and idk what else to tell you guys

I also have the 26 gallon tank but I don't fill up when I'm on fumes. I usually put in 18-22 gallons at a time and get about 340-360 miles on those 18-22 gallons.

I got 21 once in my colorodo with the goofy straight 5 cylinder. Usually around 15ish

Mustang gets about 27 on the freeway with a strong tailwind @ 70mph. if I reset the puter and hit the gas at the same time it shows 3.8. Now thats a variable there....

My guess is that it'd be the 33's and driving style...

not that the 94 and up rams were ever that great in the mileage dept.

I had a 97 Ram SS/T reg cab, 2WD, 5.9 liter, 3.55 gears, short-bed.

For the most part I averaged in mixed, but mostly city driving ~ 15-16mpg

Best trip was to Brainard MN and back in which I pulled down 20.5mpg. Most times in trips to MN, I'd average ~ 17-18mpg doing 70-75mph.

The 5.3 get better gas mileage than the 6.0. My buddy has a 5.3 and gets 21-24 on the highway. My 2005 6.0 2500 crew cab long box only gets 15 mpg on the highway.

Well my truck is a 1500 crew cab short box......but it also has the H.O. 6.0 not the same 6.0 thats in your truck. 15mpg is a stretch, i dont think ill touch that....

SAME motor just a different cam and timing curve. I know all the 6.0 get bad gas mileage. My buddy cant get better than 13 with his. I am going to put 29" tires on mine just to see if i can get better mileage. Will help bring down the rpms.

Breecher_7
05-22-2007, 07:39 PM
Bringing the RPM's down COULD make the gas milage worse as the engine will have to work harder to maintain speed. Ive been through that game before..... I will re-gear before I increase tire size. In my oppinion the way the trans is geared, even with mere 265's, the 4.10s are not enough....

werd, although smaller tires will make the engine rev higher, causing more fuel consumption, so changing tires isnt a be all end all to fix your fuel mileage. go drive a miata if you cant handle it (not directed at you breecher, just a general statement)
