View Full Version : 4th Gen True Duals over the Axle...

I'm installing pacesetter longtubes and I'd like to go with 2.5" over the axle true duals. I'll supply the mufflers and tips and I'll bring the car in with the longtubes already installed.

I already know a place in northern IL that will do it, but they want me to run the BMR panhard rod relocation bracket (relocates the upper brace), but I know it's possible to run 2.5" over the axle duals without the kit.

Does anyone know of a good place? Mandrel bending would be nice...

I'd just dump it before the rear, cause later if you wanna do something underneath the car you can just unbolt the X-Pipe and drop it.

Quick96SS is building one and he just might be building me one also.

I think OTE could handle that.

OTE?

And I don't want dumps, I know I will pay for more...... but meh.

there is a local guy that has it done on his 4th gen Z. it's prety sweet sounding. Speed Inc. did it down in Schaumburg, IL area. Only ones I know in the area that could do it "RIGHT". I'm sure Tom could do it at OTE as well, and he's in Waukesha.

Mine has been dumped, and i've also done mufflers with some extensions right off the collector. noise wise there isn't much difference. at that point you are going for looks and spending more.

isn't that a little big for an LT1 2.5"??? I know the ls1 powered kangaroo's had 2.25" duals

There's plenty of people running 3" duals on LS1's. I can't see why 2.5's would be an issue on an lt1.

3" duals? backpressure much??

I could see 3" duals if it's got twin turbos and well over 500rwhp???

me = noob.

nan, don't be a turd (regarding your origiinal post) I don't have an f-body, and all I have is a kangaroo to reference stuff off of, so sorry if it's what I refer to.

I'm perfectly aware at what I'm going for (looks rather than noise). I want some cool looking tips.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the reccomendations.

yeah, i'm not knocking you at all, cause it's cool as hell to do it.

the way it's best done is if you just run pipe all the way back and over the axle, then get two "bullet type" mufflers, like Borla XR1's that are round and shorter. those tuck up real nice where the stock muffler used to be. also, you have to look at BMR Fabrications website. Al that suspension stuff they have, they have a panhard rod re-location bracket that helps for the true duals and get it out of the way of the pipe coming over the rear axle.

and if you haven't seen it, speed inc's true dual dumped is like $500 installed, but the over the axle true duals is like $1200

Yeah I was going to run XR1s. I know a shop in Northern IL (not speed-inc) who said they will do it for $480 (I provide the mufflers/tips and the headers already installed) for over the axle x-pipe duals. They want me to do the BMR panhard rod relocation though, even for 2.5s (which I know are doable without that relocation bracket). I've seen pictures of it done.

I may just end up doing the relocation and having them do that though, but then I might as well do dual 2.75" or dual 3". Kind of overkill on a stock internal engine, but at least it leaves a ton of room to grow later.

I met Tom the other day. He gave me a very fair price, said he could do exactly what I wanted, and perhaps most importantly he didn't patronize me for being a chick!

Very cool guy, I'll post pics when it's all done.

Yeah we figured we were missing people we probably knew, the parking lot was so crowded last night. I was in the purple Z and our friend Zach was in the orange GTO. Maybe you can PM your cell # or something so we can actually try to meet up next time, because shouting across the parking lot isn't gonna work, lol..
