well my step dad owns a 2002 Diesel jetta. car is supposed to get between 55-65 MPG..well for months now he has only been getting 40-45( big deal right:goof ) well besides the bad fuel mileage it has been really slow. now i understand these are not rocket ships but it was very noticable..so we pull off the egr valve and intake manifold..and what do we find..carbon build up. it is about 4 in thick..needless to say the EGR valve is getting blocked off, so this doesnt happen again. could you imagine the damage that could of been caused if that chunked would of seperated from the intake manifold and went into the engine?:wooo :wooo
the metal ring is how big the hole used to be..Black stuff is the carbon

Eh, just put a stainless plate between the two. You don't need egr for anything on a diesel

Yep you can.
I knew there was a reason that thing was soooo slow.
From what I hear, the VW diesels are always throwing codes. Spend thousands chasing the little BS or pop out the bulb :)

looks like my moped build-up
All you really need to do is use a spoon to scoop that carbon out like ice cream.

Be careful. Those hurt if they hit you.
