Here is my situation:

My mother has a 2000 Accord EX with the 3.0L V6 (J30A1 200hp). For the most part, it is a very nice car and has given us few problems...but this does not include that it is on its 4th transmission. I do not know exactly why, but for all of the v6 accords from 98 to 02, the trannies are crap. This last one has been in since 5000 miles and the car has 115000 now. In the past year, it has had an issue with reverse engaging about 4 times (the main culprit).

If the tranny goes, it is about 3 grand for the whole 9 yards to fix it. She doesn't want it anymore and is going to buy a new accord and give me this one for cheap!

An alternative to the over-priced tranny is to buy a newer J-series engine with a tranny from a junk yard. Because the new one are very reliable, many of them tend to be cheap ($900-1500). They also all make more power and are better on gas.

I don't know what would work, but I think the blocks are the same for all of them.

Here are the other J-engines:
J30A4
2003-2005 accord
240hp/212ft-lb

J30A5
2006-2007 accord
244hp/211ft-lb

J32A1
1999-2003 Acura TL
2001-2003 Acura CL
225hp

J32A2
2001-2003 Acura TL type S
2002-2003 Acura CL type S
260hp

J32A3
2004+ Acura TL
270hp

J35A3
2005+ Acura MDX, RL, TL type s
265hp

J37A1
2007 MDX
300hp

some of the latter ones might lack compatibility for the tranny.

Who says Honda does not make hp or torque?

I don't think that the newer ones will work with that motor. I have an 01 CLS (accord basically but nicer and faster) and the same can be said for my tranny: It sucks.

I think its a good idea, but you'd have to find a tranny with whatever the problem with the #2 gear fixed, I couldn't tell you what they do it to it, but I know that was the main culprit in the beginning. Other than that I was under the impression that every tranny thats hooked up to a J32 or similar is made of glass.

Good luck.

IIRC, the current Accord has a 5 spd auto tranny along with all of the Acuras. The accord I am about to get has a 4 spd auto.

Well if you can find one, why not go with the 6spd out of an 02-03 CL Type S, the motor as well. A few mods and you're towards 300 hp

Install of new tranny:

1: You can use either the F22, F23, H22 or H23 manual trannys its really your choose. If you are using any other tranny other then the F23 you will need to take off the fitting for the F23 slave cyl. As this will only work on the F23 tranny.

That tranny swap sounds like it is for the 4 cyl engine.

All of the J-series engines are interchangable, I just don't know about all the trannies. The current accord might be the best bet. It will need custom exhaust too.
