Try to remember.....

NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Don't pump gas on may 15th.
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil company's pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) resend this to your entire contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

it's nearly impossilbe for me to plan when I fill up. I run my truck empty till I get payed, then I fill er up, gas prices do suck when my "good" mileage vehicle gets 12 and my crusier gets 7 on a good day
edit: yeah thats a definate no for helpin out, the 15th is a tuesday and I get payed every tuesday

by not pumping one day... you're either going to pump up the day before, or make up for it the next day, so the temporary decrease in sales, will be made up either way, and this plan is null.
:)
(and we just had a thread on it, where I Snopes'd it to death) :D

'A' for effort though Ken :thumbsup

It should probably mention you need to consume less gas around that day. Car pool, ride the bus, don't drive anywhere you don't need to, etc. Otherwise consumption would be shifted.

I have seen one other approach and in the managerial world it should work:

Boycott a single large gas company for a long portion of time. They will have to lower their price to receive income from those that cross over, but still do not buy. The competitors will begin to lower their prices to compensate for the lowered competitor price. This will drive everyones price down.

The problem is to keep it there.

The dollars spent on gas will be the same, just on a different day.

It would be more about the message. Imagine if no one actually did pump gas?

The sales graph for that day wouldnt definately have a message. Whether it be effective or not.

So they don't get any customers on the 15th but tons of customers on the 14th and 16th. You can't just not pump gas, you have to stop driving, otherwise you aren't doing anything at all.

It might sound strange, but these things DO work.

Like she said, it would be more about making a statement than actually doing financial damage to the big oil companies.

In order for a "statement" to make any impact, a ban would have to be for at least a month. And I mean a ban on driving, can't just stock up on gas to use for a month. Thing is, there are Park and Rides all over the SE WI, how many people use them? Fact is, sheeple would rather drive and ***** about high gas prices than do what it takes to stop it.

sweet, so then everyone fills up on the 14th just to make sure they have enough gas to make it through the 15th :D

The oil companies will make up some crisis to raise the price on the 14th & the 16th, But drop it on the 15th just to stick it to us again!

The only people this hurts is the gas station owners who are already losing money cause of the high prices. Big oil won't even notice it.

A gas out for one day will not work. I heard a better idea that could work. You dont use a certain oil company. If we all boycott Mobil who sets the standard for gas prices that would be more efficeint. If no one buys from them then they would be forced to lower prices which would cause others to follow their lead. Sounds a lot more realistic imho.
