Oil Filter Issue! Help!

Ok, so me being in a rush a few weeks back when to the parts store and told them i needed a filter for the chevy, came home, changed the oil for the first thing, thought nothing of it.

Went to the store yesterday, bought another filter, go to change it today, low and behold, it is a different filter number. Same size, same seal, same everything from what I can tell but different number. So i go to Frams website to verify and the filter I have just bought is the correct one. What the hell is the old one that was on there and did I damage anything?

Yea I like to save a few bucks here & there, but not on oil filters :]

Back to the point, as long as the old one fit/sealed up fine, highly doubt you did anything wrong.

There are a couple of part #'s that fit my Eclipse, like the 3000GT filter (much bigger), etc.

Prob no damage, if its the same size, seal ect Im sure your fine. Maybe a misprint on the filter.

Ive always used fram.....what would you suggest? Never had anything but good luck with them.....

could be same filter, different lenght/capacity. Shouldn't change a thing...but, need the numbers to be certain.

I use Fram HP5 but am switching to WIX 51061R. I am going to invest in one of these. http://www.gopurepower.com/site/products/default.asp#FILTERS its the 8400 series.

alot of cars can use 2 different size filters... some can use 3 different part numbers/filters and work fine... its usually the overall size difference between the different filters.


^did that even make sense??? oh well..... as long as your filter didnt blow off or is leaking you'll be fine!

I know most GM's (especially the v6's) take a 47...but a 51a is the same exact filter except a bit longer

I use oem Mitsu filters, rumored to help with infamous lifter tick.
If I don't have one on a weekend, I'll pick up a Mobil1.

Are you trying to use a AC delco PF47 style filter on it? its gotta smaller hole...

You are supposed to have a AC Delco PF46 (replacment for PF44) on there... Or a PF59 which is longer for more filtering capicity and has the same hole size of the 46. OEM filter like delco i believe are made by WIX
