Electricians, Anyone...I need wire.

I need some wire. I am having an A/C unit hooked up and I need to run some wire from the panel to the unit. I have the shut-off and all that stuff, I just need some wire to pull through conduit. I think all i need is 2 10 gauge lines and a ground. Anyone have some laying around I can score. I think I have about 15 feet of conduit to run through. Anyone?

10 is pretty thick for an A/C unit. Must be a big one! What size breaker is it supposed to have.

it only needs 30 amps 220v breaker. Can i get away with smaller gauge wire?

For 30 amp you are going to want to use 10. Most whips that go from the disconnect to the ac unit are either going to be 10 or 8 anyway. I wouldn't go smaller than that.

Yea I'd stick with the 10, what's more important, saving a few bucks, or your house/possessions going up in flames.

General rule

15A = 14 gauge
20A = 12 gauge
25A-30A = 10 gauge

I usually go to national salvage by the stadium. Last time there I got just over $2/ lb for solid, coated wire, even low voltage/ data cable was over .90/lb.! Our copper wire cost went up 12% last week:wow , so the scrap prices are probably pretty high right now;)

i work in purchasing/material handler/electrician depeneds on the day lol, i just recived a memo that wire is going to jump 10% more in the next couple days. i just payed 39.88 for 250' of 14-2 romex and it jumped to $46.00 a couple days after. and now its going to jump more
