Anything food related is probably a good way to go too, ya figure he gets to eat for next to free, so he's saving money on dinner... and so what if it's fast food, you expect to be served by someone under 18 anyway, so there's no shame in it :D

Now if you're nearing your 30's and you're doing drive-up, well...
Like this guy that used to attempt to pick on me in high school, not mentioning any names Paul @ McDonald's in the Falls on Pilgrim...

Purchase a used Lawnmower $75
Gas weedwacker - $40
Two Jugs for gas - $8
Broom - $5
or
Gas blower $60

Walk around where you live and just ask the elderly if they need there lawn cut once a week. $15 to $20 a pop :thumbsup

If he ends up doing there lawn most likely he should get a $100 2-cycle gas snowblower for the winter because once you cut a persons grass theres no way in hell they can say no to shovel there walk way.

I made a decent ammount when I was a young buck :thumbsup

Figure 4 lawns per week at a respectable $15

1 months all the equipment will be paid off

Gilles on 76 and Bluemound hires if you are under 15. Night shifts can go kinda late 12 - 1am depending upon how busy it is. When they turn 16 go apply at the zoo.

There was a kid down the road from me when I was younger who did the same thing. The only difference is that he saved up and progressively bought bigger lawnmowers till he had one of those John Deeres with the 0-turn-radius, a 30+ hp engine and a rollbar. His parents claimed he was netting in about $500/week when he was 15!

A guy in high school did exactly that.
He now owns his own landscape business with enclosed trailors and all that shìt.
TLC lawn care, they're always in the Falls.

I still think about starting my own landscape biz, so easy :)

at wal-mart you don't have to be 18 to work there, at least not at the one i work at......but if your not 18 the only thing you can do is be a cashier

You can usually find a job washing dishes...That's how I bought my first car at sixteen.

I started at Mike Crivello's shortly after turning 15. If I remember right, most of the mall jobs (at Southridge) required you to be at least 16 though. But that was almost 15 years ago, so who knows now.

Now I feel old.

PickNSave hires at 14. he'll be a UC aka bagger, push carts, clean up stuff to start with, but can easily be a cashier shortly. decent pay, he'll accumulate Vacation even if he's part time, and they work around his schedule.

If he likes cars, I'd also recommend an oil change place. I started working at one when I was 15-16 years old. It was fun, decent pay + commision, and I got to be around cars! Sure it was mainly Accords and Escorts, but the occasional Z28, '57 Chevy, or TT 3000GT would come in. At 16, that was pretty cool. Hope he doesn't mind gettin dirty though!

Lawns FTW!
Listen to your own music, take as many breaks as you can afford, set your own hours.
Laws are tough about hiring under 16, and with the proliferation of lawsuits for employers/employees to beware of, what is out there sucks.
Mow lawns and do odd jobs for a few months.
If nothing else, you will get a bit of a tan, develop some musculature, respect hard work, and learn how to catch fish instead of ordering them on Fridays.
Good luck.

I did the same thing that awesomeears suggested when I was a kid. Cut lawns, shoveled snow, worked a paper route. I also worked at a family owned vegi./fruit stand for awhile doing stock work (I guess thats what they called it) The dad would bring a tractor loaded with corn or other stuff and we had to sort it in bushels or containers.

Do they still have the lame laws on hours they can work? Like 4 hours a night or something?

I used to work 35-38 hours a week when I was in high school. I loved having money.
