Just wondering if any of you guys/gals have experience with the Ford Fusions. Like them, hate them? I'll be getting a new car this summer and I'm looking at either a newer Taurus or a Fusion (Keep in mind I'm on the college budget). Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I really like the car and it's good on gas, but the Taurus would probably be the less expensive of the two if you are on a college budget.

Hardy har har... You're funny....

The Taurus will be the less expensive of the two obviously, since you can only get them used and from rentals now a days. The Fusion leases out well, so that might get to your budget if you're a payment buyer. The Fusion is an AWESOME car... Lots of fun to drive, a bit of pep, and under it's skin it's a Mazda. They're great looking cars and if you get a higher option package are equipped very well for the money. I honestly wouldn't think twice Taurus vs Fusion. I feel the Fusion is an all around better car.

:rolf Yea, I know the Fusion is going to cost more, but I definitely like the body style on that more than the Taurus. Do you drive the 4 or the 6 cylinder?

02v6stangpwr

4 cylinder...better gas mileage and less expensive :thumbsup

Yeah, in my opinion the V6 is only worth it if you're getting one with AWD, and then you're looking at a big ticket item anyways. If you want fun... I4 Manual... If you want a comfy reliable ride I4 Automatic, that's what we have. It's actually a Tungsten Grey SEL I4 Automatic...

Here's a picture from when we got it...

Now don't that look a hell of alot more sexy than a Taurus? :rolf

Um...you just called it sexy...

I should have specified that I plan on buying used. But yea, I agree that if I could swing it, I'd definitely get the Fusion over the Taurus. I have a Sable now, and it's not a bad car, but the Fusions just look so much better and have some nice options. Yeah, you're right, the 4 cyl is cheaper and gets about 3mpg better than the 6. Thanks for the input. I just wanted to get a feel from somebody who owns one.

For used ones they're finally starting to come down in price... :thumbsup When you're in the market send me a PM... I don't work at a dealership but I have alot of connections...

I don't know if the Fusion is sexier than the Taurus. The Fusion doesn't have the rounded nose resembling a catfish. No, the Fusion looks a billion times better. Thanks again for the input.

the fushions are great cars, go for it. great gas mileage, nice options, all for a decent price. you can pick up a used one that carries the ford certification warranty (6 years, 75,000 mile powertrain warranty along with 5.9% financing) for a really good price.

the difference in the 4 and the 6 cylinder is so small that it isnt worth paying the extra money for the 6. the 4 cylinder runs strong, while being a little louder, the extra gas mileage is worth the extra noise! another thing to consider would be the redesigned Focus that is coming out soon. Ford did a nice job with the Focus and it will be a real nice car for a even nicer price. if you have any other questions let me know!

My lady has one and she loves it. It looks painstakingly similar to Joe's. She wanted the 5 speed car, so she got that and it's a fun car to drive. The upgraded sound system is great. Gets 33+MPG when cruising on the hiway.

No complaints thus far, other than I lightly bumped something and the rear bumper got all deformed... :fire

P.S. In-pan oil filter FTL. Took it to Valvoline because I had a coupon and they had to run to the parts store to get a filter for it... :rolf

My guys out at FocusSport in Anaheim have a division called FSwerks that is dedicated to the Fusion. Their 2.3L turbo setup for the Fusion is definitely a mod to think of for anyone with a Fusion.

Yeah, one tech I talked to complained that the 4s are louder. To me, that's not an issue at all. Driving downtown to school every day, I'd prefer the better gas mileage. As for the Focus, I think it'd be too small. I need a lot of room for hauling hunting gear and hockey gear. That's one thing I like about my Sable: lots of trunk space and the folding rear seat.

The Fusion def. has both of those. And I think the sales dude said the trunk was bigger than the Taurus.

Yeah, I thought I read that too. The folding seats is a nice thing to have. I might go do some "window shopping" tonight. We'll see.

The trunk is bigger than the Taurus/Sable, plus there are no arms that go into the trunk limiting the space even more. Cabin space feels roomier to me than the Taurus/Sable.

The exterior of the new Focus is a bit too bland for Focus enthusiasts (yes, we exist). The interior is definitely nice, it has a Microsoft developed interface to your ipod and phone (it will even speak out your text messages you receive).

Power is released through only 2 motors, which in reality is only one, the 2.0L Duratec and 2.0L Duratec-E (low emissions). This isn't a real problem since there are more power adders out there for the Duratec than you could probably imagine.

We had one out in Cali last week and it drove fine, but it certainly is not the European Focus we had all hoped for.

No, they don't come out until August. We had a silver SEL coupe at California Speedway for an event.

That has been the general consensus of the community as well. Why Ford did NOT bring the European Focus here and instead putting together a lame version of our own is beyond most of us.
