This is really starting to piss me off. I have a cardinal that has some kind of fascination with the rear view mirrors on my cars. The thing will flutter in front of the mirror pecking and scratching like it's fighting. It leaves scratch marks all over the mirrors and paint and trim mouldings. The worst part is that it shits all over the doors every time. I always keep my stuff clean and this friggen bird proceeds to crap on my car when it pleases.

Every winter I hope the bird just goes away or dies or something but it comes back every spring and sure enough it's back again.

Anybody got any ideas how to get rid of it?
It flies away and lands up in the trees the second it sees me, so I thought about picking it off with the pellet gun, but I know that's not right.

I dont know if there is much you can do besides shooting it.

I say make a nice little perch for it to sit on wrapped in wire and hooked up to your car battery. Just kidding of course

lol, I don't have a problem shooting it but I'm not sure it's a good idea in a residential neighborhood, plus the wife would be pissed if she found out I

Cardinals are very territorial birds, and will always return to the same area to find a mate. If it finds one in a particular area each year it will fend off all other suiters. (other cardinals)

This one is going after what it thinks is another male cardinal even if it is just a reflection because your car is near his mate or nest. Get yourself a car cover and it should cure the problem.

I'd just put a pellet in it. Obviously you don't want to shoot your neighbor's house or anything, but just get rid of him. Set up a little sting operation. Make a nice gun rest at the window (second story would be best) and target the tree where he flies. Send someone out to flush the bird in the tree. The minute he lands (pop). Problem solved.

I guess your other, more humane option would be to get one of those plastic owls and put it near your car. That might keep him away too.
