I have a 95 Formula Z, though I havent ridden this year, anyone else tearing it up on the trails?

Yeah. I have one. We need to find someone with a nice field for the summer to do some grass drags though. I am already getting depressed about the season coming to an end.

I put on 400 miles last weekend. I think that will be it for the season.

I have two sleds currently:
04' F6 - trail sled
99' ZRT 1108 w/ 45 shot of nitrous - race sled

been sleddin since i was 10 yrs old, cant get enough of it

got a
-2006 Apex GT
-2003 Viper
-2002 SXR700
-2001 Venture 700

the apex is by far the fastest, that thing is a friggen missle, but i still prefer the seating position of the viper/sxr to this new "up high" approach yamaha is goin with. In the really windy trails is where the sxr really is the best because it is the only trail sled of ours that isnt picked so it slides around nicely

saw all the 08's (yamahas) last week at a show back home in illinois and didnt really like anything i saw, that 40th anniv apex is a joke, stickers and paint for 3 grand.....and the new nitro, phazer thing just feels wierd to sit on

if your like me and race motocross in the summer and dont do long trail rides i do alot of riding around here and most the time i ride ditches and i ride very aggresive.so the light narrow nimble feeling it has suites me perfect. if your wide open alot it lacks top end where i can see ppl like that not liking it.

on the fusion we got, we have all the updates and really other than the clutch we really haven't have too much worinty work that I can remember, other people hate the sled but I like it, I've also been riding it for awhile so I'm comfortable on it, not as good as the dragon, but the dragon is by far the best sled I've ever riden.

I was up riding around sawyer county last weekend. Spent most of it riding my dad's '05 F6, which I will probably be buying from him, absolutely love that sled! Also took out his '05 rx-1 which although not as nimble on the twisty trails, puts a smile on your face from ear to ear when you hit a long straight or the lake.

What are ypu guys using for gear? Mainly helmet and bibs? I have some cheap snow pants, just the pants, not bibs, and was gonna buy some, probably Coldwave bibs. I have a modular Skidoo helmet but I think I bought 1 size too small cuz its really tight.

Lots of Yamaha fans huh?

I have the shitty old C7 suspension in my sled and want to upgrade. Ive always had a think for the SX700R or SXR700 or whichever its called, the Yamaha. Ive always heard the SXR has a better suspension than the SRX?

its actually behind my buddys house in oak creek... we've rode that feild for prolly 10 years.... and now Oak creek wants to turn it into a subdivision:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: and the funny thing about that... right now its considered a flood plain! so they will have to bring in tons of dirt just to make more homes. but oh well....

Yamaha suspension used to be garbage. Their new line of sleds are actually really good. My brother has an Apex GT and the suspension is awesome. Piggy back shocks on the front and the rear shock is adjusted with the push of a button. These sleds are awesome trail sleds but horrible off trail - they are way to heavy. If I were to buy a sled for strictly trail riding, it would be a yamaha.

JC70SS
03-07-2007, 01:09 PM
Agreed! I am debating buying an apex. The last sled I would buy begins with a p and ends in s. If they don't get their act together they may be out of the sled business.

i agree with the wieght thing excpet for my phazer 487lbs is not bad. im far into the racing end of the buisness, know alot of ppl in the industry and the talk of polaris is them pulling out of snowmobiles. with the demand of the four stroke by the epa, tree swingers, and the avg consumer, better gas mileage, less engine noise, and far less maintnence. (you cant beat $50 <pre season>for a extended 4 year warranty on a 4 stroke yamaha.) polaris is just unable to produce a good four stroke motor. hense why polaris bought into ktm to use there 525 motor in the preditor quad. but that didnt last long:rolleyes:

I picked up a 1988 Polaris Indy Trail this year for $500, best $500 I ever spent!!! The trails are 4 blocks from my house and I've put on close to 600 miles this winter. I'd love to get a new(er) sled, but for banging around here (west bend) I dont see a point in spending the $$. I've seen and heard about plenty of the newer sled breaking down with serious issues, and honestly, I get a good laugh at the dudes decked out in $1000 worth of Blair Morgan wannabe gear and a $8000 sled broke down on the trail or sitting in the garage in pieces. Heck, they laugh at me when I roll up with that raggity looking Polaris wearing my hunting bibs. :rolf

I know what ya mean: take care of your schit, and your schit will take care of you.
IMO, a lot of the problems occuring with the new sleds is just lack of refinement with all the new technology they're using. Guys are blowing up engines and destroying suspensions on $8-$10,000 sleds! Meanwhile, guys like me have 20 year old junka$$ snowmobiles, beating the p1ss out of them and they continue to run.
