According to this survey, Wis. beats AZ and Florida for the amount of registered pre-73 cars. Pretty interesting. http://www.sema.org/main/semaorghome.aspx?id=56863

Most guys I know with classic muscle cars are not very good with computers and afraid of the interweb.

It's interesting to me how many cars are in Cali. The state that is the biggest emissions Nazis, yet has the most old cars and biggest aftermarket.

There are a ton, but they're all grey beards, and couldn't even tell you what ctrl-alt-del does, much less type a sentence that makes sense.

The deep south has a lot of pre-73 registered but I doubt if they are classics.
mostly just daily driver junk. I bet the number of new car registrations in those states is pretty low. Billy bob can't afford a new car every 34 years like we can.

Billy bob can't afford a new car every 34 years like we can.

On the flip side there cars don't rust out every 5 years like they do up here, so not as much of a need for a new car or truck :D. If I lived in the south where salt was a non-issue I'd strongly consider driving only cool older cars, cheaper and fun to drive...can't go wrong IMO. Nice to have something new but money can be better spent elsewhere sometimes.

Down here in South Carolina, there are a few military guys that own classic muscle. Other than that, the ones that are here local are the kind that only come out of the garage for car shows. It's not common to see any classic muscle around town. At least not even close to as many you see in WI.

The term muscle car generally describes a rear wheel drive mid-size car with a large, powerful engine (typically, although not universally, a V8 engine) and special trim, intended for maximum torque on the street or in drag racing competition. It is distinguished from sports cars, which were customarily and coincidentally considered smaller, two-seat cars, or GTs, two-seat or 2+2 cars intended for high-speed touring and possibly road racing. High-performance full-size or compact cars are arguably excluded from this category, as are the breed of compact sports coupes inspired by the Ford Mustang, the "pony car".

It's subjective I suppose. "Arguably" leaves wiggle room.
I have an old book, it's kinda cool, called "Musclecar Mania". It's a collection of old "Muscle Car Advertisements". In the eyes of the author, Camaros, Firebirds and Mustangs are well represented in that book as "Musclecars". I also have a few diecast cars I collect. One of my favorites is a Boss 429. In the accompanying literature, it describes the Boss 'Nine as "The pinnacle of performance from the Musclecar Era". However perhaps the reference was to the output of the engine and not the ponycar in which the fabled powerplant rested. "Ponycar" could perhaps be the core description of a 1967 Camaro with a 6, or a 1964 Mustang six, while a 1969 SS 396 Camaro or a 1971 Mach1 with a SCJ would indeed be considered "Musclecars".

Editorial Reviews
Book Description
American Muscle Cars is the most comprehensive pictorial history yet published of that bygone era when the nation's roads were ruled by big-block classics like the Chevy Chevelle, Ford Mach 1, Pontiac GTO, and Plymouth Duster. Almost 20 years after the last of Detroit's vintage muscle cars rolled off the assembly line, this handsomely illustrated volume serves as an important nostalgic tribute to these symbols of 1960s and 1970s youth. Holder and Kunz leave no original material out of this paperback edition-they cover the entire spectrum of muscle car models produced by GM, Ford, Chrysler, and American Motors. Engaging descriptions and a wealth of photographs (including 16 pages in full color) recapture the glory days of the Chevy Camaro, and many more. The authors also feature several factory production models, including drag cars, Trans-Am racers, and Indy pace cars. Every car shown actually exists-still loved, cared for, and driven by its proud owner-depicting the very best in muscle car mania.

Yea... It's a subjective description.

Just took it right from the Amazon description. :D

I didn't write the copy. I do have the book though, it's full of "ponycars" that are marketed as "Musclecars" per the advertising.
I think that it would be safe to assume that the original topic subject applies also to the "ponycars" or whatever you wish to call them.
