Kind of a long video but, it's kind of cool to see that huge chunk o billet take shape as a V-8 engine block.....

It's really cool to see how that table moves around when they are cutting the cylinders.....

Awesome. I just started using an engine lathe a few months ago; there were metal shavings in my hair today. Hopefully I'll know how to use the 3 axis CNC machine by next year.

I wonder what program they used to design it.

I would love to have a CNC machine like that to make all sorts of custom engine parts with.....

I watch that crap all day everyday. I run a couple machining centers in automated cells. The machines are Roeders, absolutely the best on the market. 3 machines in the hard cutting cell have 30000 rpm spindles and can cut steel that's up to 58-60 Rc.
200 ipm is not out of the question but usually run 75-100 ipm.

2 machines in the graphite electrode cutting cell have 42000 rpm spindles and can cut with .015 diameter carbide cutters.

It's crazy just to sit and watch it cut. You can't even read the lines of code it's using. I looks like numbers raining down the crt. kindof like the matrix.

makes a bridgeport seem like a hammer and chisel.

Who needs a lathe when you have a 5-axis!

At school, we have a MillTronics that has only been used by two people (i'm one of them). There is so much stuff I want to make, but I have not been able to find one person who is willing to watch (second person required for safety reasons) in the past year. I have offered food and even money and nobody will take it.

I sometimes want to sell all of my cars and drive an old escort if it means I can get a CNC machine.

We have a 5 axis at work, Im still reading the directions for it! Havent even wired it up yet..... I should take some pics of our machine shop, its like a playground everday I go to work!

What brand of machine is it? Where I work we are looking at 2 different ones.
A Makino and a Roeders. We did identical test parts on both and the Roeders looks nicer and cmmed better but the Makino is a lot less expensive. I'm sure itll be a learning curve to figure it out.
