can I comp test the engine with the intak manifiold off?

when I took the intake off I noticed there were a couple loose bolts. Was thinking maybe the coolant was getting in from there, actually hoping.

Sure, just disable the ignition system so it doesn't try to start.....and yes I've seen it happen......

As long as your valve train is still all intact, yes.

Not sure what to tell you about the fuel system though, your gonna have fuel pissing out the fuel line when you turn the key on unless you pull the fuel pump fuse.

No need to worry about the ignition since dist is out already.

PS a leak down test is more accurate for diagnosing Leaking head gaskets, unless its blown BAD!

Oh yeah I forgot you have a distributor :durr , I was thinkng the upper intake. For the fuel just pop the fuel cutoff switch, should be in the trunk somewhere.....

cool I'll be pulling out the seats for the new ones anyway....
