anybody know anything about garage door openers

I need to buy a couple garage door openers. Is there a recommended brand or one to stay away from? Belt drive or screw drive? Can anyone get deals on them?

I installed a 1/2 horse Craftsman screw drive a few years ago and haven't had any trouble.
Chain drive is too sloppy for me and I don't trust the belt drive, so screw
was the only way to go.

I agree, screw drive is the way to go, I've had 2 Genie's now and never had any problems with them.

well you got what you wanted already, but for chitz and giggles, our first house had a chain drive, honestly it gave us zero problems i can remember. the chain broke when i was 18 i want to say, and it was just one link. that means it lasted 14 years. new one is a screw, and no problems yet.

although from what i just read, makes sense, our first house was a single garage door, chains are meant for less load. new one is a double. makes sense i guess
